The Center for Disease Control (CDC)

The CDC is the leading institute for national public health in the United States. It is a federal agency in the country that is found under the Department of Human Services headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The main goal of the CDC is to protect the safety and health of the public by controlling and preventing disease, disability, and injury both in the United States and internationally. The main focus of the CDC is to develop and apply approaches to disease prevention and control. The institute also researches infectious diseases and non-infectious ones like diabetes and obesity and provides information on the same. Currently, the CDC works to confront the various challenges of the 21st century concerning health threats.

The Center for Disease Control works with partners from the private sector. The public-private partnership helps in advancing the mission of the organization, which includes protecting the public from health threats (Kolbe et al., 2015). Besides, working with partners in the private sector helps in ensuring health security towards contribution to a healthy economy. The partners have their own unique objectives, which they have to tailor and align with those of the CDC. This can be done by incorporating the communication tools as well as extend help towards researching certain health issues. One of the private sector partners of the CDC is the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is the largest philanthropy in the United States. The foundation is solely focused on health and is based in Princeton, New Jersey. The main goal of the foundation is to improve healthcare and health for all Americans. This is achieved by giving grants towards this course. Through the grants, the foundation has helped in increasing access to care for many people (Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, 2016). Besides, it has given grants for a range of issues, including childhood obesity and training both doctors and nurses. Additionally, the Robert Wood Foundation is also focused on including the economic and social factors that have an impact on health. These are factors that include poverty, quality of housing, access to fresh food, and violence. Notably, the foundation also gives awards to communities that put efforts towards ensuring that residents have the opportunity to live healthier lives. It also gives the RWJ Sports Awards to honor sports institutions and personalities who use sports to help children in managing their weight, creating safe environments, eliminating abuse, violence, and bullying, and expand opportunities for children living in poverty.

The common good in the partnership between the CDC and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is to improve the health of the citizens of the United States. The RWJ Foundation provides grants that are utilized in various health projects by the CDC (Prina, 2017). The foundation also funds public health policies that are essential in increasing access to quality healthcare. For instance, in 2014, the foundation funded the New Healthy People 2020 Law and Health Policy Project through the CDC. This grant was also put in use for research that would increase the pool of information for evidence-based medical care across the country (Ponce et al., 2018). In 2017, the foundation released the first of its kind data analysis of the largest cities in America to analyze and report data about chronic disease measures.
