The effects of the mass media on human society
Mass media have a crucial role in the culture, socio-political, and economic development of human society. The media is interested in teaching standards and principles that may not always lead to good social progress. The effects of the mass media on human society are positive and negative (Crane et al., 2016).
Television broadcasting started in 1936 in Britain, followed in 1939 by the United States of America. Since then, in addition to government-owned stations, the expansion of television broadcasting has covered the entire country with many private television stations (Cookie, 2015). There are various public and private Television stations in Kenya today, with programs and content that meet the needs of different viewers, both children and adults with features of local political debates, soap operas, comedy, movies, international shows, sports, and cartoons ( Were, 2015).
Innovation has brought a lot to Africa in terms of Western civilization and culture. It completely devastated the social fabric and introduced a new culture of violence example, the traditional African conflict resolution structure. The democratic process in Africa has been violently eradicated and replaced by authoritarian colonialism. The hidden agenda of Western modernism was focused solely on materialistic desires as Westernized ideals were introduced into Africa (Devadas & Ravi, 2013)
