The FBI
The FBI is made of various units that work to ensure that the operations run smoothly. One of the units is the Crisis Negotiation Unit that is focused in negotiating with kidnappers, and other criminals to rescue incases of kidnapping. The unit has agents who through some training to ensure that they are effective in their daily activities in the unit. The unit plays a role in enhancing the economic growth of the nation and hence should be supported for growth of the nation. The research paper will discuss the goal of the Crisis Negotiation Unit the staffs that make the unit, training and their role in the FBI unit.
The FBI crisis negotiation unit is the operational unit of the organization that responds to incidents like hostages. The mission of the branch is to ensure management of research and programs, training the individuals so that they can be able to perform in their role. The unit maintains operational hours of twenty four hours in seven days which makes it available in case of crisis. Once it gets involved in scene-negotiations, it operates to ensure achievement of goals (FBITraining.Org, n.d). Some of the roles of the Crisis Negotiation Unit is that they help in hostage rescue, incidences of kidnapping and solving terrorism. For instance, the government of United States has been affected by these crises in which some government officials get kidnapped. The FBI comes in to rescue the individuals from the terrorists or kidnappers and ensure that the safety of the population is enhanced. The FBI is regarded as the negotiation arm that is used to handle the international crisis that affect the United States’ government. the crisis negotiation unit of the FBI has been involved in over three hundred incidents in the world and the negotiators offer telephonic assistance during the crisis to ensure that crisis are solved and solutions found. The goal of the crisis negotiation unit is to resolve the crisis that affects the government of the United States either locally or internationally (Regini, 2002). Proper training is offered to the staffs that make the team to ensure that the goal of resolving crisis situations is achieved. The staff becomes equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge that is used to resolve the three hundred and forty crises in fifty six units that are presented to them. The role of this unit in the community of United States is to ensure that the negotiations of these crises are successful and that public safety is enhanced.
Staffing and Training
The crisis negotiation unit is made up of Unit Chief, special agents who work as supervisors and four support staff. These individuals work as a team to ensure that the job objectives are achieved. These staffs go through training that equips them to perform their duties as expected. The training branch of the Crisis Negotiation Unit is located in Quantico at the FBI Academy. In this location, the staffs are allowed to work with the foreign government to learn more tactics from others that they can use in their homes to solve crisis. Also, the staff has a routine to work with the local law enforcement agencies that also offer necessary information and support that can be used to resolve crisis. Training requires the agents to complete National Crisis Negotiation course that takes two weeks (FBITraining.Org, n.d). It is during these two weeks that the staff is taught the operational skills that are required for their career to enhance performance of the tasks and support the field activities. The training ensures that the staff has the necessary information to work in the filed as the Crisis Negotiation Unit agents. One of the tasks that the agents need to be highly equipped for is conducting investigations on the crisis incidents and work towards elimination of the violence in the society. The agents should be able to engage in healthy conversations with the kidnappers, criminal and terrorists to ensure that successful operations are conducted. after the training program that is taken by the individuals, they are expected to maintain incident records. Also, these trainees should be able to train other agents to enhance operational performance for better results. In cases of international crisis, the agents are deployed to other countries so that they can offer support (Regini, 2002). However, they are deployed to areas that threaten the safety of the United States. Once they are deployed, they can be able to share their trained skills with others in other countries. They can also acquire knowledge from others once they work together to enhance public safety.
The crisis negotiation unit plays a significant role in ensuring that the safety of the citizens is enhanced. The unit also protects the government of the United States from the criminals and terrorists. The government should therefore offer support to the agents through training programs. The training programs should be the ones that equip the agents with the required skills to perform their tasks when they are deployed to the field. the government of united states should have funding programs that provide resources for the agents.
