The Future of Religion
Religion provides a supernatural perception by which to view the world. Most of the different faiths assess the world and the inhabitants as holy designs from beings or forces that transcend the material world. The principles adopted for religion act as guidelines for what the believers follow as virtues and ethics. Throughout history, religion has been subject to revolution and revivalism. It is plausible that in a few years, religion will continue growing weaker but remain relevant to society and history.
Religion is not only historically relevant through analysis of the belief system but also associated with significant influence on the social and political landmarks and achievements. The case for fighting segregation involved a number of black ministers involved, and Martin Luther King also served a critical purpose after the boycott of city buses. The Catholic Church has also been the starter of many controversial wars throughout time, claiming to protect their faith. The church has also allied with several dynasties and kingdoms and in some cases recognized only catholic beliefs as the true Christians (Sherwood, 2018). The structures of the revolutions that have associations with specific religions have cemented the significance of these religions in history throughout time. A critical aspect of religion with relevant influence in the day to day practices of its believers is the doctrine that provides regulations about what is considered proper conduct. Such doctrines shape the behaviours and perceptions of the entire group based on what faith the believers abide by. More often than not, faith does not tolerate any form of critique and rarely do they entertain questioning of the guidelines outlined in their doctrines. Various societies and governments today have adopted the ethics and moral guidelines adopted by several religions in the definition of culture (Paul-Choudhury, 2019). The settings also define and allow multiple dominions to coexist within the same structure and work towards a specific objective. Consequentially, such settings have set the stage for adoption of the new doctrine that only provides regulations for conduct without requiring belief from participants. The developing form of religion is termed as an atheist, which is growing fast and influencing conversion of multiple believers. It is highly probable that religion will be the most prominent.
Science and technology have witnessed remarkable growth and advancement over the past few decades, which have consequentially shaped the day to day activities of people, and their belief structure. The former has provided logical and rational processes of understanding the world and forces operating within, which has weakened the strength of powerful deities or forces influencing the running of events in the universe. The latter, on the other hand, has improved in different settings and restructured the day to day practices (Tracey, 2012, p.92). Both aspects are critical considerations for the rapid deterioration in faith and lack of ideal believers to drive the agendas of the faith ahead. Societies are now formed on the basis of technology and science, which also reprieves the hold faith, has on believers. With more significant advancements possible in the future, the role of religion is gradually diminishing in the newly industrialized society.
It is also highly probable that people have grown more sceptic and wary of any teachings and guidelines set forth as the standard for living. The context emanates from the influence of religion in justifying significant atrocities throughout history, subjecting a group of people (Paul-Choudhury, 2019). The context is still relevant to date with multiple religions favouring the subjugation of women. Given that multiple channels have sought to negate such influences and instituted change in the societal dynamic, many people are opposed to the context of religion since they cannot align with all the principles and doctrines involved
Technology has also reshaped the mindset and habits of people. There is a gradual decline in the people who are non-believers. Since society is also a platform by which many people are losing faith, some communities opt to segregate themselves such that their faith will remain astute. However, the growth of the atheist faith has created a doctrine that is agreeable by most, without aligning oneself to a prominent belief. I believe the future of religion will be sidelined to historical prominence. Assessment of religion will follow logic rather than faith (Davie, Heelas, & Woodhead, 2017, p. 64). The few true believers in existence will have turned the institution to one that is for profit. Though the conclusion highlights a weak sense of religion, societies will incorporate the doctrines about ethics and virtue as part of their culture.
