The Importance \of Liberal Arts in Education and Leisure
From my research and analysis were drawn from various definitions and theoretical origins of liberal arts, one can say liberal arts is a form of the traditional program of education in Western higher education. But also drawing from today’s development and enhancement of liberal arts they mainly consist of four main areas which are natural sciences, arts and humanities. Progressive art is of great importance to today’s education and leisure where it broadly offers a general overview of arts, sciences and humanities. Reflecting on today’s co-relation of liberal arts to school we can say the liberal arts education is mainly offered in college education curriculums whereby it provides general knowledge to students and also helps in developing their intellectual ability. Also in reflection to liberal arts education to leisure considering today’s social activities we can say that many people and generally the young people have fallen into art as part of their leisure others fall into natural sciences where we see some of them come out with innovations, this is due to different inspirations they get from nature (Wolniak, 113).
Looking at the origin of liberal arts from the Greek history in the 8th century the Greeks generally used the term in those major subjects and skills that were taken to be very important and essential for any person to take place in their daily civic life and activities. These major civic activities were mainly such as public debates; also, we had the cases of defending oneself in court, serving on juries and mainly the military services. Moreover, this liberal art education also included different types of skills that were into contrast with to the mechanical arts; hence I also came across the logics, rhetoric and Grammar this was the significant cores of liberal arts. The term liberal arts came from the term liberalism or free and also techniques which made different individuals of the society conduct their daily chores and doings successfully as free citizens in the community. After the origin of the liberal arts from the Greek history, this is where we later come to see the relation between the liberal arts and the current higher education being practised in today’s usual ways of living. Just drawing an example, we see that liberal arts education mainly deals with fields related to literature, mathematics, and social, physical sciences. Other popular areas that deal with liberal arts education to today’s ways of living include subjects such as English, communication, history, psychology, and mathematics. The items mentioned above in reflection to today’s daily curriculum in major learning institutions are supposed to give the learner the general knowledge required in their field rather than the specific skills needed in a technical profession. But through the introduction of liberal arts into one’s education it sharpens the learner’s research, writings’, and also the way of critical thinking skills required to prepare the learner into different broad ranges of careers.
Furthermore, looking on the importance of liberal arts to today’s forms of education, we come to discover that it consists of four major areas which are natural sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities. Also reflecting its central academic disciplines to today’s reflection to the regular curriculum we see it consists of physics, biology, philosophy, logic, linguistics, literature, history, political science, physiology, and mathematics. From the general overview of my research, we can say that liberal arts education can be referred to as studies in a liberal arts degree program or a university education more generally. Including such a course of study, it mainly contrasts to those that are principally vocational, professional or even technical (Pascarella, 124).
Also reflecting the modern usage of liberal education, the primary academic areas associated with liberal arts are such as life sciences, physical sciences, mathematics and statistics, philosophy and history, social science and lastly creative arts which generally include music arts, performing arts and literature. Through this implementation of the liberal arts to today’s curriculum we see that it has usually brought uniqueness in learning whereby learners are mainly applying and learning knowledge in their learning activities where the application of knowledge is also very applicable to their future career opportunities. This mostly shows how liberal art builds students into freethinkers, open communicators, knowledgeable citizens and most importantly, respectable students. It is through the help of liberal arts education that colleges and other different tertiary learning institutions are mainly focusing on creating critical and creative thinkers that transform into citizens devoted to service, education, and most importantly the acceptance of others.
Mostly importantly reflecting on liberal arts concerning education, we see that liberal arts prepare students to work in a variety of jobs this is due to skills acquired from different professional and vocational techniques for different job opportunities. Due to the techniques gained from liberal arts and various crafts, this makes the learner’s degree to be very appealing to the employers for having achieved various achievements in multiple artistical works (Goodman, 108). The artistically works being mentioned are such as participating in the different department such as science welfares and proving to people and various professionals of your artistic works. Moreover, through attaining multiple additional certificates also shows to the employer of how the individual is so liberal-oriented for the job vacancy.
It also creates variability for the community members when it equips the graduates with relevant skills. This shows of how liberal arts goes beyond economic value contribution to the society that the graduate comes from, this is because the community is the first beneficially of the knowledge and skills gained by the graduate in the line of his or her classical education. This is because the graduates are the first people in the society that identify issues and problems facing the community, moreover, they create more elaborate decisions that help in improving the case problems in our organisations. In a way concluded manner, liberal education is education for life is because liberal education sharpens and prepares the graduates in adapting and thriving to have the motivation in changing the world.
Lastly, we come also to see how liberal arts education is essential in for leisure this is because it concentrates the learner’s mind in a more appealing way than a distractive way. This is because when one is practising liberal arts education as a form of art, this helps in improving the individual’s skills and techniques. For example when the learner is using sciences such as coming up with new scientific ideas to enhance the problems facing their community that means as he or she solves the challenges facing her community she or he is also improving the skills acquired from different techniques.
