Similarly, When referring to the internet, most people only think about its beneficial elements; however, just as a coin has two sides, it also does the internet. Communication is one of the core benefited aspects of the internet. It allows people across the globe to interact and
stay connected. Email and social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter are the various conventional mediums of communication. These platforms allow their users to
exchange information back and forth. In contemporary society, almost everyone owns or has access to these features. Therefore, such platforms create a conducive environment for communication without thinking about the distance. It is effortless to assume that all good comes from the web; however, the internet comes along with adverse impacts.
Evidence supports that there is a high percentage of
spamming in emails and false messages on these platforms. Criminal minds take advantage of the average user without them knowing through advertisements and click baits. These people can share viruses to the unsuspecting
user’s computer without the owner knowing. The most recent case was that of a ransomware malware that affected computers and corrupted files. The developers the
n demanded a minimum of five hundred dollars to send the user a deciphering key-which was not sure whether it would work or not.
Identity theft is another negative impact on the internet. Because most people conduct/ transact most personal business online, the internet, which acts as a database, has access to all these data: which is just floating around. Hackers gain access to medical files, credit card information, and other personal data that could harm the owner. In conclusion, the internet has two different results-positive or negative. It is a matter of how we, as users, utilize this powerful tool.
