The Jilting of Granny Weatherall
In most cases, betrayal is a rather negative aspect of life that can result is lack of faith, torment and loss of confidence to the individuals who feel betrayed. However, some people have the ability to change the emotional direction of a betrayal act and turn it to their advantage. In other words, betrayal can be a motivation factor to the people who are betrayed. Notably, the negative power of betrayal cannot be assumed as it as the ability to produce both moral and psychological conflict within a given relationship for both its victims and the perpetrators. It brings a twisted kind of feeling for the both party where the victim feels anger, confusion and demand for atonement (Meierhenrich, 2014). On the other hand, the perpetrator experiences guilt or shame and exhibit signs of remorse. A more hidden aspect of betrayal is it ability propagate into a more complex social problem if it is not mitigated. There can be a shift of emotions where the traitor becomes defensive when the victim continues to express anger. Hodgson and Carey (2017), notes that betrayal has the ability to initiate an explosive type of anger that is shifting in magnitude.
