The man to send rain cloud is a story detailing the death of Teofilo, an older man from India. Leon prepares the body of Teofilo for burial at one point in the story. He then continues to paint Teofilo’s face yellow. The color yellow symbolizes mourning or death in the Native American culture. Though Teofilo is dead, the author uses him as a central character going through several stages of life. The author makes use of the story to exhibit the importance of living life to the fullest and leave a lasting imprint upon the world.
Teofilo is practically and physically detached from his tribe. At the start of the story, he is found dead in the sheep pasture under a tree. At night, Teofilo had tended the sheep alone. Teflon was discovered under a large tree of cottonwood. He was quickly found because of his faded light blue Levi jacket and pants. The thick cotton forest stood apart from a small grove of bare winter cottonwoods that grew in the big, sandy arroyo. The author depicts him as a sad, neglected poor man.
The author also demonstrates transition throughout the story. He shows that in life, one goes through trials and problems which encourage personal growth in knowledge. Teofilo is transformed through his burial process. His fragility is also demonstrated when he is the young men dress him for burial. The author says that he looked small and shrove and looked more shrunken after they dressed him in the new shirt and pants. He further shows that people’s perspectives on you will change after death. By laying the bundle in the back of the pickup and covering it with a heavy tarp shows that Leon and Ken no longer view Teofilo as human.
He changes from being an active older adult to a flimsy disintegrating dead body. The death of Teofilo transformed other characters also. The end of Teofilo turned father, Paul. He transitioned from religious to spiritual. He learned the importance of having a spiritual life.
Again the author is trying to show that life is short. After this life, one returns to the earth where he came from. The author is trying to inspire people to live life to the fullest because it will be over one day. One should leave this world a better place. Another thing is that one can give a more significant gift from life beyond. Teofilo gave a more excellent gift to his tribe than what he would have been able to provide them with during life. He also gifted father Paul’s spiritual learning.
After witnessing Teofilo’s burial, father Paul realized that religion is not the only thing in life. His view on death and life after death expanded due to the end of Teofilo. Everyone got a gift from the death of Teofilo. The story teaches readers how life after death is. At one point, one gets to understand how life will react to response in their end.
One should lead a life of impact. After reading the story, the reader will react to being more careful. Before leaving the earth, one should impact his generation fully. What life seems to be is secretive, and time looks too short for us to delight in it. Most of us are always encouraged to live life to the fullest, but we were never told how to do that. As we grow, we continue to seek out how we are going to make life worth living in. We are likely to be brave and try to get to know the world.
