The Mara Experience
- a) Travel
The wildebeest migration is a once in a lifetime experience that you should be on everyone’s bucket list. My visit to Kenya was a memorable, fun and exciting experience. I went to Kenya over summer break and was lucky to catch the beasts migrating from Tanzania to Kenya in August. My trip was made successful and less stressful of Bonfire Safaris. It is a reliable and affordable tour company with quality services that I would recommend to other tourists planning to visit there.
- b) Accommodation
I stayed in the country for about a month. During my stay at Maasai Mara, I was accommodated at a tented camp. The park has many of those. I made a reservation online for the one I stayed a.called Mara Bush Camp Their rates were affordable with special offers like accommodating an extra person for free if three came along. They offered that if you wanted to spend all day in the bush, a chef was available to serve you picnic meals all the time.
- c) Migration
Now back to the bit on the wildebeest migration. I was amazed by the resilience of these magnificent beasts as they crossed the Mara River. The crocodiles did not stand a chance against these beasts which protected their young. I could see the animals standing over the river, trying to gather the courage to cross the deadly river. On some days, then back down to graze along the Savannah but on a fateful day they all cross. The first day I went on the tour, we spent a lot of hours just conversing with the tour guide with no action. But they gathered courage and crossed over finally.
- d) Culture
I was immersed in the Kenyan culture, and it was exciting to learn about them. Everyone I met was so friendly and courteous. Most of them spoke eloquent English, so I did not experience a language block. The food was terrific, and I tasted some infamous Maasai delicacies such as raw meat and cow blood which are actually not as bad as you would think. I even learnt a Swahili greeting ‘Jambo’ to mean hi. I had a fun experience and suggested anyone who has the chance to experience it.
