The Masque of the Red Death
The short story was published by an American author Edgar Allan in 1842. The short story elaborates about the actions of Prince Prospero, who opts to avert from the danger that has stricken his land. It is correct to indicate that the Red Death plague that invaded the land was killing everyone; hence, Prince Prospero decides to hide in the Abbey with his friends (Cook, 2019). The prince is accompanied by other noble associates that are protected behind rooms that have been welded to protect them from the dangerous plague in the land. The prince opts to host a masquerade ball together with his friends in the seven rooms. Surprisingly, the prince discovers a guest who no pone has his identity in the seventh room. Therefore, prince Prospero becomes furious about the instance and decides to approach the individual who is dressed in a blood-splattered robe resembles the red death (Poe, 2019). Prince Prospero holds a dagger ready to pursue the figure. However, he is heard crying and eventually dies. All the other guests in the room further die in turns. Therefore, it is probable to ascertain that the prince’s reaction to protect his noble friends in a castle that is made in such a way to protect them from the red death plague can not be perceived as a natural reaction. Prince Prospero, instead of protecting his people from the plague, in this case, is prevailed to run away from them. Thus, it can be established that the move of the prince to hide in a castle cannot be projected as a natural reaction. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
It is worth depicting that the castle that prince Prospero and his noble associates decide to take residence in seems unique. It has seven rooms that are decorated in different colors, and all the doors are locked to protect them from the red death. However, the move that has been conducted by the prince cannot be perceived as a natural reaction since it is the responsibility of the prince to protect his land and find a solution to the plague. Moreover, it can be brought that the prince seems to be concerned with only the wealthy individuals within the kingdom. In Edgar Allan’s short story, it is appropriately indicated that the associates that accompany the prince in the castle are wealthy (Poe, 2019). The rest of the individuals belonging to the lower social class are left by the prince to succumb to the land that is invaded by the red plague. Hence, it is right to indicate that the reaction of the prince to hide in the Abbey cannot be perceived as natural from the fact that his objective was only saving the noble individuals. It is projected out as a selfish reaction that is only concerned to protect the prince and his friends alone.
The move of the prince to hide in the Abbey can also be perceived as a manner that is meant to let him avert from the responsibility of protecting his people and the land. In this case, it is depicted within the story that the prince decides to hold a masquerade ball party within the castle within a specific period after they sort refuge within it. In this case, it is not able to establish that prince Prospero is more concerned about his survival and cares less about what prevails in the land and his people. The rooms that are within the castle are painted differently. In the seventh room, it is painted black and appears scarily. The room is also illuminated with blood color that scares people within the land. Therefore, the guests are entertained up to midnight when discovering a scaring figure in the darkroom that appears like a funeral shroud (Zimmerman, 2017). This is the moment that the prince demands to know about the identity of the mysterious guest and decides to pursue him. The death of the prince follows the moment. Therefore, the fact that all the guests die in turns despite their attempts to seal the Abbey appears to make prince Prospero’s reaction not natural. The rooms that were meant to protect the red death plague has now invaded them, and the party ends with the death of the prince. It is thus, right to indicate that it was not natural for the prince to react towards the plague by hiding in the Abbey together with his noble friends.
Furthermore, it can be indicated that the reaction of Prince Prospero to hide from the red death plague can not be perceived as a natural since all those in the Abbey die eventually. The thoughts that they had survived the death and holding the masquerade ball party is ultimately interrupted by the arrival of the red death plague through the sixth room painted in black (Zhang et al., 2017). Furthermore, it can be further established that the prince does not succeed in surviving the plague that he had attempted to escape from by hiding in the Abbey. Hence, it is worth confirming that the reaction of the prince cannot be projected as natural.
Consequently, it is reasonable to maintain that prince Prospero’s reaction to the red death plague that is consuming his land cannot be presumed to be natural. Instead, it is perceived as a selfish and greedy reaction that is meant to protect him and his noble friends from the plague. However, Edgar Allan’s short story reveals the deaths that prevail within the castle despite the thoughts of the prince that they were protected from the disease. Hence, it is worth establishing that the prince fails to perform his responsibility of protecting his people and only opts to be accompanied by noble individuals making the reaction not to be perceived as natural.
