The Origin, Nature, and Consequences of Sin

Introduction

Sin and its consequences are one of the many theological positions in Christianity. Understanding sin enables believers to have a more profound knowledge of their creator. Sin is said to affect every creation. And every sin brings about eternal judgment. Christians consider sin to be a violation of Gods eternal laws. This particular theology has influenced Christian’s behaviours and virtues, among others theologies.  Every action taken has been considered thoroughly to avoid leading to sin. Moreover, sin is believed to trigger the wrath of God.

Origin of Sin

The origin of sin is traced back to the book of Genesis.  The fall of Adam was the beginning of sin. According to Genesis, Adam and Eve were the first humans to violate the rules of God Adam and Eve were placed in the Garden of Eden and given authority over everything else except the forbidden tree. However, through manipulation from the serpent, Adam and Eve, who would have chosen to resist the temptation, decided to disobey God. The act led to their banishment from the Garden of Eden. Their sin of disobedience paved the way to other sins embraced by humanity till date. This includes mass killings, pride, lust, jealousy and cheating, among others.

In addition, the lord formulated the Ten Commandments to govern the lives of the Israelites. These commandments stated Gods laws which were to be obeyed. They provided a guideline of what is considered more sinful in the eyes of the lord. Sin was not limited to Israelites; only it was to all humanity regardless of gender, power, tribe or wealth. From Kings such as David to prophets such as Moses Who talked to God directly, they all sinned.

Consequences of Sin

Sin triggers the wrath of God. According to Genesis3:17, God was furious with Adam and Eve for disobeying his rules. Because of it, he cursed Adam that he will have to toil the ground to eat. Moreover, he swore to Eve that she will always endure pain when giving birth. Humanity is still suffering these consequences to date.

The bible explains how God punished the world. Through floods as in the case of Noah, fireballs as in the case of Sodom and GomorIn addition, abandonment like he did with the Israelites where he let them wander in the desert for forty years because of disobeying him. He dealt with his people directly. However, in today’s lives, he is believed to manifest his anger through Earthquakes, Epidemics, Accidents, and flooding’s among others.

Opposing View

Other parties may argue that the origin of sin from the Fall of Adam and Eve is irrational. According to Merrit (2017).  Christians believe that because of the sin committed by Adam and Eve, every human is inherently sinful. This belief makes them pessimistic and naïve.  He argues that every human is born good with the capability of being remarkably good or evil.

Conclusion

In conclusion, sin is believed to be an act of disobedience to Gods laws. The sin started with a simple act of disobedience from Adam and Eve and has transformed to other sins such as murder. Sin triggers the wrath of God. However, this theology on the origin of sin is considered irrational by other people.
