Most people believe that one becomes a man or a woman after becoming mature and responsible. Based on McKie (2010), it is worth noting that maturity comes from the ability to cope with psychological and emotional pressures at ease. Unlike boys and girls, men and women tend to be independent and confident as they recognize and appreciate their abilities and self-worth. A boy similar to a girl is an individual who is still in the self-discovery journey.

To begin with, a man and a boy are different in their perception of the world. A man is an individual who understands what he truly desires and works towards it. On the other hand, a boy might have an idea but not fully developed on how the goal can be achieved (McKie, 2010). For him, he does not think much about the idea, and if he does, he will not exert much energy on it. A man is, therefore, assertive while a boy is passive.

A boy has no solid plans which make him vulnerable to societal pressure, while a man has concrete principles that derive from experience.

A boy is naïve while a man is mature. The maturity of a man is marked by confidence, intelligence, courage, experience, and consistency. However, a boy is characterized by a lack of confidence, inexperience, unawareness of the surrounding, and inconsistency in decision making (Paechter, 2007). A man only makes the decisions that are suitable and aligns with their future goals while a boy is driven by peer pressure and personal urge in making decisions.

On the other hand, a girl is a young female who is dependent on parents or guardians for guidance and support, while a woman is an independent adult. A girl lacks the ability to handle responsibilities (Paechter, 2007). A girl might be capable of reproducing but is not emotionally, psychological, mentally, and financially ready to take responsibilities. A woman is a female who is emotional, physically, and psychologically mature while a girl is still in the development phase across all developmental aspects.

A girl additionally has a naïve perception of the world due to a lack of experience while a woman is mature. A woman understands her self-worth and gauges all her decision on such measures while a girl will rely on others’ opinions or doings to make decisions (McKie, 2010). While a woman is assertive and focuses on her future plans, a girl lives in a moment and lacks the confidence and courage to pursue her goals.

In conclusion, a boy differs significantly from a man in terms of cognitive abilities, emotional, psychological, and physical characteristics. A boy is less masculine and lacks the courage and ability to make future plans and work towards them. Also, a girl is naïve, while a woman is courageous and independent. Both boys and girls are dependent on others as they are incapable of taking responsibility.
