The Rules of the Game (Leadership Approach Considerations)
My primary objective and goal were to make accessible to artists the necessary equipment and exposure opportunities for them to make use of their talents. I plan to do this by starting up a recording studio named Airwaves and Ripple. I plan to find a suitable rental building, furnish it, and find all the required gadgets and equipment. I also planned to bring on board the necessary personnel to make part of the staff. This team would comprise of producers, engineers, managers, and assistants. They would also help in getting some contracts and artists to work within the first year of operation. Our other goal was to have a robust and capable marketing department to get the name out there and attract more clients.
The leadership style and design that we adopt will be crucial to the achievement of all our goals and objectives. We will, therefore, need visionary and inspirational leadership to drive, enforce, and ensure the success of all-out targets. Leaders who are transformational work towards upsetting and changing the status quo for the better (Fernandez, 2018). As a result, to have a far-reaching effect, we will need goal-oriented leaders. They should share to have a modern studio with powerful and effective equipment. They should also believe in and work towards improving the condition of our artists by not only giving them a platform for expression but also reinforcing their artistic identities.
Our leadership and organizational vision are to ensure that everyone, especially artists, has the necessary backing and support network to express themselves and pass their messages. Our leadership will aim at being an accessible, supportive, and guidance point for our clients. The organization will stand for bringing access points of entertainment, occupation, and career to the local neighborhood areas. It will envision a world where no one faces the constraint of a lack of resources and mentorship to pass forward their work or messages. The organization will also ensure that it stands out as being less about profit and more about making our clients happy and giving them a chance for the world to hear them. We will also encompass aspects of support and helping out in the finer details of our branding.. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
Our team will comprise of various players with different expertise and skill areas. These shall include the producer to select sounds and final arrangements, the recording engineer to mix and alter sounds to reach the perfect choice, and the studio manager with oversight over the running of the studio. The other members of the team shall also include a studio assistant for administrative purposes and the day-to-day functioning of the studio. We shall also have a marketing team to work on putting us on the map through avenues such as social media and Television. The studio shall also include a financial department to handle monetary issues. A legal team shall also guide the whole group on functioning within the law and upholding ethical standards in our jobs.
The organization will work using a flat structure with no hierarchies and walls. These shall ensure quick decision making without any bureaucratic procedures (Khan, Ali, Ali & Shah, 2017). The company will also enforce a system where each team and department are independent, and their members have power and autonomy in decision-making. This system shall make the employees feel significant, valued, and motivated to put forward their best performance. There shall also be meetings, including the whole company, on individual decisions affecting all. In cases of different sides, we shall have votes to reach a consensus. The organization shall ensure that each staff is aware of such an order of business and that the majority decisions shall take the order of the day.
The organization’s hierarchy will be in place for formality purposes, although the working shall be of a flat structure. There shall be managers and supervisors in charge of departments. Having such an arrangement shall ensure that the workforce has a person to report to in case of anything. The legal team shall be involved in all instances of drafting contracts and agreements. This case shall be after careful considerations and factoring in all the requirements. However, each case shall have different criteria on what is the best way forward. In the case of a band, floating the idea of an intra-band contract shall be crucial to curbing future challenges in cases of disagreements or break-ups among the members.
Our business structure shall adopt a flat outline giving the employees powers and discretions to show their capability within their departments (Khan, Ali, Ali & Shah, 2017). It shall also make them responsible for their actions and decisions. This structure is beneficial as it motivates the employees, knowing they are accountable for each of their moves. It also ensures the removal of communication and hierarchical barriers making decision-making faster and the work moving on. It shall save the company from liabilities that may arise from divided powers within the organization.
One of the potential human resources issues that may arise from the business revolves around compliance with laws and regulations. These can come up from the rapidly changing music industry and the governing laws and policies. Some of the team members may not agree with the rules, thus not follow them. Another issue could be discrimination and harassment. The organization will operate an open-door policy admitting people from all backgrounds and walks of life. Some of the workforces may have a hard time working with some of these people. There could also be conflicts within the workforce due to disagreements.
The corporate shield or veil is a legal term used to separate the company from shareholders and their actions (Macey, 2018). It ensures that the company assets are separate from shareholders and protect them from liability in the case of the company’s mistakes. The corporate veil shall assist in such liabilities as creditors seeking payment, which the company cannot provide. It prevents them from moving to acquire a shareholder or owner’s asset to offset such debts. Secondly, it also protects against such acts as the failure to document business actions such as contracts with clients and meetings or abide by the necessary formalities. These are essential processes that may come back to hurt the company if not for the corporate veil.
The business shall uphold the integrity and advocate for what is in the best interest of the clients. However, some ethical issues may arise during such interactions. One of the primary ones could be piracy issues. These leave out the artist’s preference and fail to give credit. They could also result from leakages or the use of pirate sites such as Pirate Bay and applications like Napster. Another ethical issue could be issues arising from the streaming of their songs, for example, through YouTube. Such sites make a lot of profits while not recognizing the contribution of the artist. When they do, they give the artists very little in terms of sharing the benefit.
One of the methods that the company shall enforce to deal with ethical issues is training into knowing the possibility of their occurrence and how to avoid each. There shall be a strict policy against leakages or doing anything that could lead to such disclosure. Sadiku, Tembely & Musa (2017) discuss digital ethics and suggest that education on the same should not be optional but a requirement. Each department shall also ensure that its members are aware of the code of ethics of the industry and abide by their standards. The company shall also put in place possible disciplinary actions for breaches.
Conflict of interest refers to situations where one or an organization might have more than one interest, and pursuing one could hurt the other. At Airwaves and Ripple, one such a conflict could arise when the owners of the business are also artist managers. They would become interested in the financial aspect of the company at the expense of the artist. Allen (2018) gives the example of Michael Jeffrey, Chandler, and Hendrix’s case where a similar thing happened. A second instance could be the organization balancing between artists that bring in profit and ones that need more work, such as coaching and development.
The leadership of any organization forms its backbone and informs the direction it takes. Airwaves and Ripples’ transformative leadership shall aim at changing the lives of artists and our clients for the better. It shall also ensure job satisfaction for the workforce, knowing the good that they do and the difference that they make in society. The leadership shall be inspirational and factor in employee motivation. It shall promote individual responsibility and make the workplace a conducive and suitable environment for creativity. The relationship with the clients shall also be considerate and all-encompassing. It shall ensure all the artists develop trust and commitment, knowing that Airwaves and Ripples represents their best interest and works towards putting them on a world map.
The leadership shall also work towards ensuring the enhancement of teamwork and cooperation. All the various departments shall work in teams to ensure diversity and the use of different views. There shall be a lot of team-building endeavors to foster relationships among the employees. We shall have such events as games at the end of the week to help the workforce relax and feel entertained. During such circumstances, there shall be the mixing of people from different departments to form teams. This move shall enable them to know each other beyond their departments and job descriptions. We shall also have more team-building activities beyond the office setting. Other businesses that shall boost the organizational morale shall be recognizing accomplishments and rewarding improvements and milestones. According to Akbarzadeh & Mirzaei (2019), the perceptions of trust and organizational competency also boost the confidence of employees within an organization.
