The sexual appeal of celebrities
Cinema is the representation of the imaginations, lives and thoughts of the people. Over the period of time, cinema or movies have carved a special place to cater the stressed human psychology. The commercial success of cinema depends on the scale of how popular the actor is. The sexual appeal of celebrities has proven to be the most important factor in their popularity. Media houses use specific erotic scenes to highlight the sexual appeal of female actors. Posting these on social media to maximize the impact can also lead to negative effects on the personal lives of celebrities. The sexist images of celebrities and the comments from the viewers can be very damaging to the actors or musicians. The mean and derogatory comments can dent and bring down the self-esteem of the celerity. Their professional reputation can also be damaged. This type of negativity around the celebrity can make her the soft targets for moral police forces and other religious groups. The fact that anyone can say anything without caring for any sort of consequences has been the main reason behind this sort of action being promoted. The results are very catastrophic in the lives of celebrities who have been targets of such violence on the internet (Halder & Jaishankar, 2017).
The terms of ‘crime’ and ‘stalking’ and ‘cyber’ have come very close to modern western culture. These three are often associated with the term ‘famous’. The behaviour of people online will stop or at least be restricted to the last acceptable boundaries due to new communication technologies. Somehow there will be new types of behaviour which would be considered as criminal and the phenomena will continue to take its own path. The #MeToo movement has been a benchmark in identifying the role and impact of intentional violence against celebrities (Hearn, 2018). The miseries, such as domestic violence faced by the celebrities, undergo changes and negotiation on the normal meaning of being a citizen. The public cultural sphere is an area of the contest that is highlighted by mockery, pity and hostility towards celebrities, especially the female celebrities. The concept of shared entertainment is confusing in the public spheres as there is no sense of limitations. The moral purpose of people that stresses on obedience to the rules of the community and harmless jokes is lacking the impact as the community has a common goal that contributes to self-interest, sexist approach (Eronen, 2014).
It is very easy for journalist and readers of celebrity news to bash the celebrities using the social media platform. The type of behaviour is very easily accepted amongst the youth. If the analysis is based on media vs public, then the attitudes tend to differ. The criticism in open public is not as crueller as the online criticism. There is a general sense of accepting the bashing of a celebrity that is not like by most of the public and journalists. The celebrities that are most favourite and are criticized more than the youth does not connect to them and find it hard to believe the journalist or reader if a study is conducted between Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez and the attitudes of young girls regarding the negative comments about both of these celebrities. The youth was less critical about media criticism than public humility. They also accepted the bashing of Miley Cyrus more easily because of her overall image of being disliked by everyone (Gaëlle Ouvrein, 2018).
