The University Life

University lifestyle is believed to be a freestyle one and also stress-free indeed. Many people consider it a stepping stone for a better future. As it was my age ambition to pursue Telecommunication engineering, I joined college immediately after my high school to make my dream valid. I expected that life on campus would be simple as many deemed it; however, things seemed to turn away when I joined the university. The better life and stress-free environment were nowhere to be found. Therefore, in this paper, I will share the experience that I encountered when I joined university and the lessons that I learned.

Immediately, when I joined university, the hardships started, making me think I was in the wrong place. Considering all the fame and stories that had come across me concerning university life, I could not believe it when life started turning out to be the opposite of what was narrated. It was very ironic. I have all the reasons to say that university life was disappointing to me, as it was on a Friday evening when I was on my way to my room, on my hand, and I was carrying a kilo of maize flour and sukuma wiki for supper. There was nothing to smile about as my sponsor that is the Higher Education Loan Board, had not credited my account yet since I reported to the university. My uncle, who paid for my school fees, had stopped receiving my calls for no apparent reason. Life was not easy; I was the most disappointed guy living on planet earth if not in hell!

On my way, I met two ladies in the company of two young men holding each other’s’ hands heading in the opposite direction; perhaps they were heading to the most famous place on the campus. Not desperate for love as my grandmother would have put it, but desperate for money. Sincerely, I had no idea of how it looked like, but if my sponsor had responded in time, I would have headed there not to drink but to catch a glimpse of how it looked like. What made me not to attempt going to that place is that I had some questions with me; which campus lady will dare date a broke guy like me?, who will dare dance with a guy wearing material trousers in a club?. All these fears limited me from going into the club.

The two ladies stared at me like dirty rag abandoned by a street boy in the street, and this made me even sicker. Overwhelmed, I forgot to tell them that I was pursuing a degree in Telecommunication Engineering. Perhaps the most eminent course in the varsity that would make any land abandon their rooms to come and stay with me, just to have a feeling of staying with an engineer. But I had to let them go, cursing the gods for having met such arrogant daughters and sons of men.

Before going far, I decided to take a look at my phone; maybe someone might have mistakenly sent me some cash. To my surprise, I found a notification message from my landlord that reminds me to pay for my rent deficit. This message crushed me entirely and made my university life so challenging and disappointing.

In conclusion, my experiences in university taught me how university life was when you are broke. The hardships that i went through almost made me hate the so-called “University.  In my opinion, the equality in the university makes it hard, whereby the affluent students enjoy life while the poor remain struggling. Finally, the university is a better place to be since it brings you close to your dreams, though the hardships associated with it make many consider it as the center of suffering, like my case.
