Therapeutic Factors

Irvin Yalom established eleven therapeutic factors while pursuing the Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy class. Each of the aspects contributes significantly to patients battling with domestic violence, and are applied in group interventions (Waldo, Kerne, & Van Horn Kerrne, 2007). Importantly, one may opt to resolve the issues by picking instillation of hope and imparting of information to the victims. LeCouteur & Oxlad (2017) suggests that it would be vital to impact faith to persons struggling with domestic-centered violence since they feel overwhelmed by their failure in addition to being defeated by life situations. As a consequence, it is helpful for the physiologist to give such individuals hope for them to feel appreciated and seeing the probability for a better future outcome (LeCouteur & Oxlad, 2017). Once domestic violence victims interact in groups, they get to know other severe challenges faced by their peers, which in turn acts as encouragement.

Imparting information to the victims is yet another therapeutic factor. Once a domestic violence victim is exposed to a group, they get information and tactics on how to get through different life situations (Waldo, Kerne, & Van Horn Kerrne, 2007). Again, getting engaged in a group contributes significantly to boosting the understanding of the victims since they can reflect on what they learned while interacting. While in a group, the individuals share their personal experiences, which acts as a motivation to their peers. Importantly, the shared experiences impact their lives positively because they can apply what the partners did to resolve domestic violence issues (LeCouteur & Oxlad, 2017). It is through mutual sharing of experiences that the victims will acquire positive energy hence attaining a positive change.

Guidance group leadership and counseling group leadership approaches are primarily used to provide persons battling with similar issues a platform to interact and share their experiences. However, the two methods tend to differ in various instances (LeCouteur & Oxlad, 2017). On its part, guidance in group leadership refers is a situation where a leader provides a piece of information or advice purposely to overcome a difficulty or resolve a persistent problem (LeCouteur & Oxlad, 2017). On the other hand, counseling leadership refers to professional information provided by a superior to aid the group members in resolving physiological or personal issues. Overall, guidance leadership is preventive, while counseling is curative in nature.

Furthermore, guidance leadership is utilized in groups to assist the victims in choosing the best alternative. The leaders provide the victims with various options that they can choose to resolve their issues in addition to providing them with educative material (Waldo, Kerne, & Van Horn Kerrne, 2007). Examples of guidance leadership may include physiology information cessions and orientation programs. Conversely, the leaders utilize counseling to impact the victim’s way of thinking for them to find solutions on their own (LeCouteur & Oxlad, 2017). Overall, counseling is more personal as compared to guidance since it aids the victim to get over personal issues on their own.

Storming and norming is vital when monitoring individuals battling with domestic violence. During the storming phase, it is critical for the group leader to ensure that the members interact freely with others. The members should be encouraged to confront peer’s opinions because it contributes significantly to developing involvement in addition to dealing with conflict issues (LeCouteur & Oxlad, 2017). Norming is yet another essential phase in managing a group of domestic violence victims because it induces them to realize their purpose in achieving the group’s goal (Waldo, Kerne, & Van Horn Kerrne, 2007). I will utilize the phase to help the victims realize their personal goals, which will, in turn, promote their mutual interdependence.
