What Are The Main Arguments/Themes Of The Reading?

One of the main arguments of the reading is how the introduction of Tamburlaine was so popular in late 1587. From the case study, Tamburlaine was a musical play that involves the use of new lines and attracted new audiences during the period of the Renaissance. The popularity of the musical play led to the changing behaviors of the adjacent communities. This was a point of contempt ions since there have been other previous plays from the renaissance period, but it had led to the corruption of people. In the vivid language of Christopher Marlowe, ‘It is striking that Tamburlaine has led to the complex character development which is, most striking and puzzling.’ (p. 100). All in all, the period between 1587 and 1594 saw a change in England that people were not ready for, especially musically.

From the readings, there is the use of Irony. In this case, the use of Tamburlaine led to the changes that the people wanted for a long time in England. To help expound in this, the case study uses irony and symbolism to help state how the new musical plays changed England. The case study mentions a Machiavellian warrior who thrives son barbarism and cruelty described as feeding scraps to a defeated king placed in a cage (p. 101). This is the representation of the way that the new music had consumed England, and all other musicals were gradually being eroded. More importantly, this type of music was also being integrated into society by other famous musicians. In light of such information, Marlowe’s Tamburlaine seemed to defy the England traditions and cultures as it became accepted in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Another individual essential to this reading is Timor. The character Timur emerged around 1360, and he was the head of a minor tribe in the region of Samarqand (p. 102). This was an area between China and the Mediterranean basin surrounded by semi-arid lands. Timur is mostly known for his peaceful negotiations among the local tribes as well as helping forge alliances between political heavyweights in Central Asia. All in all, these were natural leaders that were endowed in personal charisma and military geniuses.

In upper India, another essential individual to this reading is Malik Sarwar, who is the leader of the Sultan Firuz Tughluq’s eunuch slaves. This was a group that was formed after Timur left the region to help raise Khizr Khan’s successors to rule the kingdom of Jaunpur (p. 107). Soon after Timur left India, Malik declared independence in the kingdom, thus establishing the Sharqi Dynasty of Jaunpur (1399-1483). Along this line, there was the uprising of another group, which was the Lodi rulers (1451-1526), who were under the rule of the sultans. It is, however, vital to note that Afghans played a significant role in the establishment of this dynasty (p. 109). As evidenced above, upper India was established by commercial connections of all these relevant rulers who played a part in establishing a stable political and economic region.

As one of the oldest mosques in India, it has survived many centuries, representing the resolve of the Indian people to solve their problems with time.
