Tripura government decided to provide free sanitary napkin to school girls
As per the Menstrual Hygiene Scheme of BJP-IPFT government, it has decided to offer free sanitary napkins to all school girls in Tripura. For the scheme, the government has opted for budget allocation of rupees 4 crores, though the rough estimation is yet to be passed by the House. However, the budget allocation for the successful implementation of the scheme has been decided in the Assembly that took place on the 20th of March, 2020.
The rules of the scheme will be given to girls belonging to class 6 to class 12 would be given sanitary napkins for free. The benefits given are in connection to the Rashtriya Kishore Syastha Kariakram during 2014-2015. Dating back to that time, the scheme has been implemented under the National Health Mission. Under this, a sanitary napkin would be given to the rural girls for rupee 1 per napkin from ASHA workers. This could cover 20% of rural girls.
Resulting from this, the state government has come up with the recent scheme plan through which it can offer free sanitary napkin to the girls of the state. However, in this relation, Finance Minister Jishnu Devvarma is of the opinion that near about one lakh fifty thousand girls would be offered sanitary napkins for free.
To this, a ninth standard student commented that the initiative should be made available to all-girls schools. Adding to this, she also appreciated the initiative of the state government to look after menstrual hygiene of girls.
The Tripura Commission for Women Chairperson Barnali Goswami is happy with the decision of the state government. It further commented that this is a great step in government, and it is also important to take care of women‘s health and think about the wellness problems carefully.
