Uber Eats

Service or Product Information

Uber Eats is an app that allows users to order food from their favorite restaurants, and the restaurants team up with Uber Company for delivery of the food to the customer’s chosen destination. Uber Eats is owned by Uber Technologies, which is an American transportation platform that is app-based whose headquarters are in California in the United States. All a person is required to do is to download the application and sign in. The customer is supposed to search for restaurants near him/her by the nature of cuisine or delivery time. The client then enters the address where the food should be delivered and any other request and waits for the time indicated on the app. The app also allows the clients to pay for the food delivered plus the delivery charges through the application by the use of cards, PayPal, Stripe, Braintree, and other online payment methods.

Additionally, the app gives room to customers who want to order food, which will be delivered later in the day or the course of the week. The app allows the client to track the order, rate the service, or even give tips to the Uber driver who delivers the food. Since the app was introduced, the company’s CEO said that the industry of restaurants was happy with the services. This is because more than 60,000 in Europe have managed to expand their market through the app. in Europe, the profits made by the restaurant industry increase by approximately $204m. The company has made changes such as lowering the fee on deliveries and toting on an additional service charge and small order payment.

The necessity for change

Customers’ demands are the main reason why I advocate for changes in UberEats. The main challenge is exceptionally high delivery charges. Customers, in most cases, usually complain when paying or ordering the food on noticing that they have to pay delivery charges. In most cases, a particular amount of money is high, which has made many customers be unhappy. The costs make come customers pay while others are unwilling to pay and therefore end up not requesting for Uber Eats services. This has made Uber Eats lose out a great extent of loyal and potential customers.

Another problem is double orders from the same place. Situations like this happen where one order is ready, and the delivery person is requested by the manager of the restaurant to wait for the second order and, in the end, ends up delaying the first order. The first order ends up being canceled, or the second-order is delayed if you decide to deliver the first order. The last issue is curbside deliverywhere the request to be addressed is in a sealed location. Here the delivery guy has to wait for the gates to be opened or a way which to reach the client, which may take longer.

Define Stage

My project will include Uber Eats going into a business contract with the chosen restaurants in particular locations. The deal will allow the two parties to come up with a delivery fee that will be cheaper where the restaurant will be required to cover a part if the delivery fee. Restaurants have managed to increase their revenue share through the Uber Eats app. Therefore it will be easy for them to agree to share some of the costs. Secondly, the app will be developed in a way that a client will be able to choose restaurants that are around his/her location. The app will have an additional option where clients can choose beyond their boundaries but will cost them extra charges. My project is aimed at solving the delays in delivery time and a reduction in the delivery charges.

The current status of Uber Eats has not focused on the customer’s satisfaction. My project will ensure that customers get food near his/her location, which will avoid the issue of double orders, waste of time due to place as the uber guys will be familiar with the area. It also reduces delivery charges due to cost-sharing between uber technologies and the chosen restaurants. The changes will take about six months, which will include time to involve all parties, which are alerting the clients for the switches, communicating with the restaurant’s management, and adding changes in the app. The project’s stakeholders include the uber drivers, customers, and the restaurants involved in the contract. The project will consist of a team from the Uber Eats team and the restaurant industry.

I will use the Work Breakdown method to define my project. A Work Breakdown structure is a breakdown of a project into parts that is deliverable-oriented. I will use these methods because it organizes the work of the team into manageable sections. This method will help me deliver my project into three stages. The stages will include changing the technology, choosing the restaurants to work with, and finally going into a contract with the restaurants. The method will also help me to estimate the cost of the project.

Measure Stages

The input process will involve collecting data that will be used to divide locations and to set boundaries. This data will include the number of restaurants in that location and the approximate number of people. To make the process easier, the data used may be from the government sites, and boundaries will be set in specific towns or localities which are already in existence. The output that is desired will be such that each set location will have restaurants where uber eats can get food from without having to travel for long distances. The measurement system analysis tool that is going to use is the ratio measurement. I will use this measurement tool because it is applicable to market research. This is because it will be able to observe the number of sales that the restaurants will make after the implementation of my project. It will also be able to measure the number of clients and market share.

Analyze Stage

One of the conditions that may be an obstacle to the progression of the project is the lack of compliance by the restaurant management. Most private businesses often fail to disclose their profit. This is because they want to evade taxes. The other reason is that they do not want to give their competitors their sensitive information. Without the correct amount of revenue or profit made, it will be hard to calculate the effectiveness of the project. Another reason is that some locations might lack hotels that will agree to enter into the contract. This will reduce the delivery fee, not be applicable as the food will have to be delivered from a remote location.  After the project has been implemented successfully, customers will be offered with values such as problem solving and credibility. Uber Eats will gain credibility to its customers, and also it will be a problem solver to customers who want food delivered fast and at a low cost.

Design Stage

The company will have to dig deep into heir pockets and set money aside that will be used for improving technology. The funds will involve setting aside a team of IT experts that will make the necessary changes. The second condition will include the sector of human resources. The uber driver needs to be selected from the set location so as they will be familiar with the area. It will reduce the time used by uber drivers from a different place to the restaurant in which food has been ordered. To improve the efficiency of the process, I will use the 5S tool and value streaming tools of the lean process. The value stream map will display essential steps in my process, which will easily quantify the volume and time taken at every level. 5S will assess what Uber Eats have right now removed the unnecessary and organize the process of implementation logically.

Control Stage

My team will use observation and questionnaires to evaluate the performance of the project after it has been implemented. The inspection will involve looking at the app to see how many orders have been done. It will also look at the ratings that the customers have given after the services have been delivered. Questionnaires will be asked to customers randomly to identify what they think of the changes and whether they are satisfied with the delivery process of Uber Eats. Lessons learned from the process are that the implementation of a project is a process that requires planning and proper preparation. Also, resources need to be set aside in terms of capital and human resource for the successful completion of a project. It involves analysis and data collection that lack the support and involvement of all the stakeholders.
