Use of Riverbed Modeler

Introduction

This chapter presents the results of the study focusing on the use of Riverbed Modeler to access a website remotely. An X11 is used by Linux as a remote display protocol to make a GUI application to run remotely over SSH session. For the Riverbed Modeler remote access website project, the XPRA platform will be used as a server-client to run the Riverbed Modeler application over web-browser. A deeper understanding of the study is achieved by the analysis results that help in answering the following critical questions in the research instrument.

  1. Will it be easy to have remote access over a website to use Riverbed Modeler?
  2. Will the university lab time restriction and maintenance affect students to use Riverbed Modeler?
  3. Will accessing remotely anytime to use Riverbed Modeler help to finish assignments?

Discussion on how the analysis links with the methodology and the research questions are presented in this section. Achieving the set objectives of the study, a sample of 60 university students is picked to participate in the survey. An open-ended online survey consisting of five multiple-choice questions was used to provide useful insights into the study. The first question was a nominal variable that was mutually exclusive. Similarly, one question was a four-level nominal scaled factor.

On the other hand, the three remaining variables were ordinal up to five levels. A Likert scale is used for the three last questionnaires. This chapter has sections corresponding to the questions asked in the online survey. Descriptive statistics are employed to analyze the responses provided. Percentages are used to make a comparative analysis among the nominal and ordinal variables. The findings from this chapter are aimed at validating the hypothesis of this research paper.

Remote Access

The client’s requirement on enabling a website to access the Linux system to use the Riverbed Modeler application. The user will be able to access the website anywhere, anytime over the university’s VPN. The first question in the research instrument aimed to establish whether the respondents knew that accessing Linux GUI application over the SecureShell was possible. The analysis demonstrated that 41.7% of the sample representing the entire population knew, while the remaining 58.3% of the sampled participants did not know. This indicates that those who had the knowledge and those who did not have are almost equal. However, a significant number of the university students did not have the information on the possibility of remote access of Linux GUI application over SSH. The results confirm that the lack of knowledge on the use of Riverbed Modeler causes over-reliance on the university labs.

Riverbed Modeler Usage

The second questionnaire focused on examining the frequency of using the Riverbed Modeler during a student’s teaching block for the course. The question would give insights on whether the Riverbed Modeler is being used efficiently. Respondents who indicated one to thirty minutes represented 11.7% of the total participants in the study. On the other hand, 18.3% of the respondents stated that they use the Riverbed Modeler for 30 minutes to one hour. Thirty per cent of the sample representing the population indicated that they use the Riverbed Modeler for a range of one to four hours. Lastly, 40% of the respondents in the study indicated that they use the Riverbed Modeler between four to eight hours. According to the analysis results, the highest number of students use Riverbed Modeler for four to eight hours. Conversely, the least percentage of respondents in the study have a usage time of the Riverbed Modeler to be between one to 30 minutes.

The findings show that the Riverbed Modeler is used for a relatively long time by a majority of the student population during the teaching block for their course. The results indicate that there is a profound usage of the Riverbed Modeler during particular teaching blocks. However, the Riverbed Modeler can be used to access over a website anytime and anywhere remotely.

Easy Accessibility

The third questionnaire aimed at establishing whether it was easy for a student to access remotely over a website to use the Riverbed Modeler. The question examines the smooth accessibility to remote access over a website enhanced by the Riverbed Model. According to the analysis findings, 6.7% of the total respondents agreed strongly to the subject. Participants who just disagreed to the question were 8.3% of the sample representing the population. On the other hand, 26.7% of the respondents indicated neutral on the question, while 6.7% of the study participants agreed. Respondents who agreed strongly to the issue were 51.7% of the sample representing the whole students’ fraternity.

The findings indicate that a significant number of students strongly agree that it will be easy for them to have remote access over a website to use the Riverbed Modeler. On the contrary, the least number of respondents both agree and strongly disagree that accessing remotely over a website to use the Riverbed Modeler will be easy for them. Since the answer to the question “Will it be easy to access remotely over a website to use the Riverbed Modeler?” is provided, it is prudent for the provision of enabling factors to ensure heightened use of the Riverbed Modeler.

Lab Restriction

A questionnaire under this section sought to establish whether the university lab time restriction and maintenance will affect students to use Riverbed Modeler. The highest number of respondents indicated that they strongly agree that the lab restriction time and support will impact them in using the Riverbed Modeler. The number of the strongly agreeing respondents was 41.7% of the sample representing the entire population. The second highest stated that they were neutral on whether the restriction of the lab time and maintenance affected them to use the Riverbed Modeler.

On the other hand, respondents who agreed with the questionnaire came in third which was 18.3% of the total number of respondents representing the population. The percentage was followed by the respondents who strongly disagreed with the question representing 10% of the total students in the sample. Lastly, only 6.7% of the sampled respondents disagreed that the university lab time restriction and maintenance affected them to use the Riverbed Modeler.

The impact caused by the lab time and the maintenance restrictions on the use of the Riverbed Modeler by the students will be significant. The restrictions will be viewed as a demoralizing factor undermining the usage of the university labs, consequently motivating the students to use the Riverbed Modeler to access over a website remotely.

Help Finish Assessment

The last question on the research instrument sought to find out whether accessing remotely anytime, anywhere to use Riverbed Modeler will help a lot a student to finish assignments questionnaire aimed to determine the impact of remote access anytime, anywhere to finish an assessment. The results indicated that the highest number of surveyed students strongly agreed with the question. The number of those strongly agreeing represented 65% of the entire population. The second highest respondents agreeing with the question were 20% of the sample representing the entire population. The number was followed by the respondents that indicated that they held a neutral view on the subject. Lastly, both the strongly disagree and agree choices had an equal number of respondents which was 3.3% of the sample respondents.

From the findings, a significant number of students understand that remote access anytime and anywhere to use Riverbed Modeler will help them to finish their assessments. The results indicate that that remote access over a website will enable better and faster accomplishment of academic activities such as assessments.

Summary

This chapter has demonstrated results from the analysis on the data of the Riverbed Modeler remote access project. The study asserts that Riverbed Modeler is the most used application for computer students studying networking. Therefore, it will be imperative for students to spend more time using Riverbed Modeler. However, labs are reserved for lectures, and there are also maintenance disruptions reducing the number of time students spend in the labs for their academic purposes. The present study sought to answer questions on the use of the Riverbed Model. Among the questions answered by the survey include, will it be easy to access remotely over a website to use the Modeler and will lab time restriction and maintenance effect using of Riverbed Modeler. Lastly, the survey provides the answers on, “does accessing remotely to use Riverbed Modeler help in finishing assessments.”

This study carried out an open-ended online survey to collect data on the topic. Sixty respondents participated in the research to represent the student population of the university. The research instrument contained five questions with the majority of the variables having an ordered scale. Two questions were nominally scaled. According to the responses on the first questionnaire, a large number of participants knew that it was possible to access a Linux GUI application over the secure shell. The highest number of respondents indicated that they use the Riverbed Modeler during their course’s teaching block for between four to eight hours. On the third question, the highest number of respondents representing a significant number of the population strongly agreed that it would be easy for them to have remote access over a website to use the Riverbed Modeler. A few study participants agreed and strongly disagreed.

A significant number of respondents strongly agreed that university lab time restriction and maintenance would impact them to use Riverbed Modeler. In contrast, the lowest number of respondents disagreed to the same question. Lastly, the highest number of study participants strongly agreed that accessing remotely anytime, anywhere to use Riverbed Modeler would help them significantly to complete their assessment. On the contrary, the least number of the students participating in the survey indicated that they strongly disagree and disagree that the remote access would help them finish assessments. The use of the Riverbed Modeler is, thus, vital for learning purposes as it provides remote access over a website anytime and anywhere.
