Vegetarians
Vegetarians refer to individuals who do not consume meat and its products, such as beef, pork, or chicken. They might also choose to avoid eating other animal products like dairy and eggs. Flexitarian, Vegan, Lacto-vegetarian, and Pesci-vegetarian are major types of vegetarians. Vegans do not eat any products derived from animals because they do not consume any meat, eggs, and dairy products. Pesci-Vegetarians consume fish and its products, eggs, and dairy but do not eat meat of any kind. Flexitarian or semi-vegetarians eat meat or fish occasionally; however, they avoid them in most cases. Lacto-vegetarians only consume dairy products. A diet of a vegetarian is healthy because it lowers the risks of cardiac diseases, cancer, and diabetes. Meat and animal products might be full of chemicals from routine injections for hormones that enhance productivity. Therefore, being a vegetarian can be healthy if an individual maintains a balanced diet in every meal.
Animals are regularly submitted to injections for various purposes. First, in modern animal farms, they might be injected to boost their hormonal levels or stimulate their growth. Most meat businesses make a profit based on the size of the animal. For example, a bigger bull is preferred for beef to a smaller one. Secondly, most dairy farms use growth hormones that enhance the production of milk. A chemical such as recombinant bovine that shows up in milk is alleged to be a major cause of cancer and other health complications. Thirdly, large-scale rearing of animals results in overcrowding of feedlots that might cause bacterial infections. Animals are injected with antibiotics to enable them to survive in filthy conditions. Fourthly, chicken reared in cages and induced with injections and bright light to increase their egg production. Therefore, a vegetarian avoids consuming chemicals injected in animals hence reducing the chances of diseases.
A diet of a vegetarian can prevent diseases. A plant-based diet has been proven to reduce the risk of obesity, diabetes, kidney stones, gout, cancer, and heart diseases. Moreover, low-fat content is recommended for a vegetarian’s diet, alongside regular physical exercise that lowers the blood pressure and eliminates diabetes. People who consume meat daily are more likely to be affected by colon cancer than those who eat vegetables. It has a lot of chemicals that are harmful to the human body because it gives a chance to diseases that can be avoided by consuming plant-based foods. Therefore, it is recommended to focus on diets that prevent the body against avoidable diseases caused by animal products.
In general, being a vegetarian is healthier than non-vegetarians. As much as their diets have significant health benefits, it might be possible to be unhealthy. Vegetarians who make poor choices of food might lack the necessary body nutrients. For example, a diet that lacks fruits, grains, proteins, and vegetables are considered unhealthy. A healthy diet should include all these types of food for appropriate nutrients and vitamins. Besides, a healthy vegetarian should limit the consumption of processed foods by focusing on fresh produce. Therefore, following a diet of vegetarian is nutritionally superior as compared to other ways of eating because the body consumes plant food that is rich in nutrients that protect it against diseases.
