Our group has is determined to, make an agricultural products storage warehouse .We will make use of a 5000 square foot area for this warehouse. This paper presents our ware house followed by the detailed report of the warehouse. The warehouse will be dealing with the storage of the agricultural products. We noted the agricultural; products that are going to be stored in the ware house. The agricultural products will be the products moving around the ware house. So it will be well ventilated and designed with better approach .The following is an explanation on what we did in every step in our agricultural products warehouse layout.

The general layout of a warehouse

  • Making the most of the available space

The agricultural products warehouse will be constructed on a 5000 square space, and this is very important as it will avail adequate area to store the products. Moreover, there are high chances of having the best warehouse developed since we are determined to make it in the best space.

  • Reducing the handling of goods to a minimum

The warehouse is going to be developed in a manner that it will not make goods or products. This will be done to ensure that the products are stored in a different location with adequate spacing. This will ensure that there is no commission when getting the products to or outside the store.

  • Providing easy access to the stored product

This is to ensure that the products will be easily accessed during the outsourcing dispatching and even for storage purposes. Our warehouse will have the best services with easy access to agricultural products stored.

  • Having the highest rotation ratio possible

The capability rotation ratio is high in our warehouse since it is ensuring that, there is a way that the spaces and the products are stored efficiently to allow for smooth rotation of the products and picking and dropping of the agricultural products too.

  • Offering maximum flexibility in the positioning of products

The issue of flexibility is factored here as we have adequate space for storage and use of the agricultural allocation and positioning in all parts of the warehouse.

  • Controlling the amounts stored

This is factored as we will ensure that the agricultural products to be put in this area are only those that can fit in the 5000square foot. This will be done keenly to ensure that no products are over-packed or stored in the wrong manner.

We have designed the warehouse layout design and present every step with an explanation of what is being expected.

 

Warehouse Layout Design

 

To design a better agricultural storage warehouse we factored out the following in getting the external and internal layout, the space available 5000 square foot, this affects the installation, the presence of any amenity outside and the operating system available.

The agricultural products warehouse was developed factoring the following,

 

  1. the reception area
  2. loading and unloading places
  3. the store coverage
  4. picking area
  5. the dispatch area

Loading and Unloading Areas

In our design, we have the loading and unloading zones located outside the warehouse. There is accessible by the trucks, Lorries that ferry goods. Our warehouse ensures that the products are separated to ensure that there is better and adequate space for storage as it helps in loading and loading of the products

We also have some incorporated loading and offloading areas within the warehouse; this will be done to ensure that there is foster handling of the products within the warehouse provided that we have enough space.

Trucks and loading vans are connected into the warehouse through the docks, which can either be: The loading vans get into the warehouse by using the dock, this mostly includes the following

Intermediate platforms separation the docks

Flush docks will aid in loading the truck and trailer in the warehouse.

Independent Loading and Offloading Zones

This is a room in the warehouse where loading of the trucks takes place, and there are rooms where the vehicles will be loaded with the agricultural farm products. The warehouse is designed to facilitate faster collection and handling of products within the warehouse. Tracks can be able to have access to the warehouse through sideways. This mostly will be when offloading and loading agricultural products.

There will be concrete bricks which connect the offloading dock. There will be conveyer belts used for loading and offloading of the agricultural products.

Reception Area

In the warehouse, we have designed an independent reception location which will be only for ensuring there is verification of the goods that have been received, making sure that they are of quality. The reception will be used to ensure that the agricultural products ordered are the exact goods received. We also have to understand that it is essential to locate the goods in the warehouse.

The reception area should be large so that the goods will be adequately accommodated for a checkup and the positioning will be better. The agricultural products brought to the warehouse will have barcodes to ensure easy scan by use of computers. Labelling will make it easier to sort the goods using a forklift.

Storage Area

Types of loads exist, that use stacking as a method of storage: the goods which contain internal strength such as ceramics, are stored directly even without the need of pallets. Products such as feeds are stored in sacks, and they require pallets for support systems.

The warehouse has been designed with a friendly and adequate storage area, of all the agricultural products .we have designed it in way that the goods can be stored directly on the ground or can be stored in racks and placed in a way making a block.

Some goods might be stored in units if they cannot be stacked together as this could appear to some delicate products. The right that is stored in racking units is put in the metallic structure. Use of beams and braced frames will create multicellular spaces and many slots for storage of agricultural products.

Order Picking Areas

Our group decides to design a desirable order picking area. The picking area is intended to be within the warehouse since the outgoing goods need a configuration that is different from the one that they entered with. Also, they may require a little modification. The picking order area can also be used as storage places.

Dispatch Area

Our warehouse is also designed with the dispatch area that will be used for the packaging of orders. Dispatch area will be necessary since it can be used to keep temporary goods that are being prepared to be delivered or packed in distribution trucks. We ensure that the dispatch area is situated in a specific and isolated place to increase the speed of movement within the warehouse. We decide to design the warehouse in such a way that the dispatch and reception are areas close to one another, and also close to the loading and offloading area Bassan & Rosenblatt,2019).

Service Area

Our service area in the warehouse is designed for support staff, such as the management offices, bathrooms, and changing rooms (Interlake, 2017). The service area is isolated from the dispatch and reception such that it is situated between the two workplaces to provide significant operations in the department. The changing rooms are also designed such that they are located in the management offices. We also preserve a space in the warehouse that will be used for the recharging of batteries and other devices. The area is designed in such a way that it is enclosed to ensure safety within the warehouse.
