Wastage of Resources in the United States Healthcare System
Over the past few years, the united states healthcare system has witnessed a lot of resource wastage. Notably, the biggest wastage has occurred in most healthcare facilities. Wastage has been happening in the case whereby doctors have ordered tests as well as procedures not based on the needs of a patient. Most of these tests are not based on their need to raise income. The healthcare system has witnessed a loss exceeding $210 billion each year. The problem in the country has been termed as defensive medicine.
Reports have indicated that the motive behind the practice is to make more money. Most of these doctors are typically compensated based on the amount they generate. Also, most of these doctors are convinced that doing more tests is the right thing to do. However, a lot of money is spent on a patent, and the practice does not improve the outcome. A huge chunk of resources are usually spent, and the patients end up not recovering.
Conservatives in the country have come up with ways of curbing this malpractice. The most recommended method by the conservatives is instilling capping malpractice awards. Such awards will ensure that healthcare services are evidence-based. However, it expected that the malpractice would continue in most of the private healthcare facilities. Private healthcare facilities have witnessed a prevalence of the vice. Such facilities have often been profit-driven. The facilities tend to overcharge patients for unnecessary services. The issue has led to a massive loss of resources by patients who frequent them. However, it is expected that leaders will come with ways of curbing the malpractices in the country.
