Ways to be Graceful Under Pressure
Pressure can be defined as the state of a person being in stress or having an urgency of matters that demand immediate attention (Luther, 2019). Therefore, when a person is under pressure, this means that he or she is experiencing difficulty circumstances, thus overburdening with an economic or social imposition. All across the world, many people are undergoing different burdens of mental or physical distress caused by various reasons like inadequate finances, illness, relationship problems, racism, ethnic differences, and many more. The act of showing grace when facing pressure is all about being calm, no matter the situation or hardship you are facing. The primary purpose of being graceful when under pressure is to reduce the harmful effects of suffering mental stress and anxiety. For a person to stay calm when facing pressure, one has to be mindful and focus on coming up with creative solutions to minimize stress (Spraul, 2018) whereas pressure and physical stress may result in adverse psychological conditions, a lot more harm results from the lack of knowledge of the crucial ways to be graceful during challenging moments.
The first thing to do when handling pressure is to stop, take a step back, and breathe calmly. Taking one moment to breathe means that oxygen flows smoothly into the brain, thus helping in deep thinking (Hoffrage, 2019). On the other hand, panic ensures less oxygen flow into the brain; thus, little thought. Not only does the flow of oxygen into the brain slow things down, but it also helps to maintain calmness. The next thing to do is to choose your thoughts carefully. To be graceful under pressure, think positively, and focus on the solutions. This helps significantly in reducing the chances of reacting negatively to high-pressure situations.
Another important way to be graceful when under pressure is to avoid unnecessary thinking. The only way forward is to think about empowering decisions that will take things back to control (Spraul, 2018). Moreover, a way to be graceful is to remember a specific role model. Taking a cue from a role model who was facing a similar situation helps you to draw inspiration and learn what to do next (Saad, 2017). Furthermore, one can be proactive and focus on the big picture. It is essential for a person facing pressure to only see the problem as temporary and thus look at the larger image of life in the future. Last but not least, it is vital for a person facing pressure to seek support from friends or family. Help is a necessary tool to boost confidence and stay relaxed during these difficult moments.
The act of staying calm when under pressure reduces cases of irrational thinking that could worsen the situation at hand (Davies, 2018). If only people all over the globe would consider thinking first before acting, then we would not only be having a peaceful world but also a stress-free one too. Observing ways to be graceful under pressure helped me learn that no situation is permanent when positive thought is put into consideration. I also learned to be proactive when under pressure. The morals that I obtained in the high-school level act are honesty, respect, and adjusting to a compromising situation. I learned that it is crucial to observe these morals as they are an integral part of our lives. All in all, ethical, moral values must be instilled in every person in our society, and this will help shape a beautiful generation in the future.
