ITS495 Capstone Project
Assignment 3: Corporation Upgrade Phase 1
Resources
Read/review the following resources for this activity:
- Minimum of 3 external resources
Introduction
Part of providing a quality portfolio is showing the prospective employer that you can address technology issues from every angle. One way to do this is to show a well-rounded approach to a systems upgrade. No matter which area of technology you choose to specialize in, there will come a time that you will need to upgrade a system. Having a document that walks you through this approach will help you in ensuring the upgrade has very little negative effect on the company.
Activity Instructions
You have been asked to work as the Director of IT to upgrade the computers in a small credit union from Windows XP to Windows 7 as well as upgrading the servers from standalone servers (print, active directory, file, web, and mail) to a single machine with virtual servers.
This task will be separated into 5 phases to be completed individually through the next 5 weeks and a PowerPoint presentation of all 5 phases in week 6. This week’s phase is the requirement gathering phase.
Write a 3 – 4 page paper with the following information. Be thorough with your information.
- Identify stakeholders. Who are the people that need to be involved in this process? Why do they need to be involved? What input would you expect from them? Make sure you look at every department in a bank/credit union and assess the need to include them in this process.
- Identify departmental point of contact. Each department will have a point of contact and identifying who this person is will help you in your information dissemination process. NOTE: you are identifying the position not an individual’s name.
- Evaluate user knowledge of Windows 7 OS. Explain how you will be performing the evaluation of knowledge and why it is important to do this.
- Gather software support agreements. Explain why this is important and what you are gathering.
- Determine preexisting vendor relationships. Explain why this is important and what you are gathering.
- Discuss security and compliance concerns and how you plan to mitigate these concerns.
- Provide any additional information that is needed to ensure proper information gathering has been performed. NOTE: There are more items that need to be addressed.
