Authors need to write a compelling opener to attract readers, but sometimes the initial attraction is not enough to motivate readers to continue reading. For authors, keeping their readers engrossed through the whole essay is essential to convey their message, because once the readers lose interest, they may stop reading. For that reason, authors often use numerous methods to improve their writing and keep their readers engrossed to their essay. These strategies are not only used at the beginning of the article to attract readers but also throughout the whole body to make sure that the readers will continue their journey.
Throughout the semester, we have observed and learned many different approaches that authors use to engage their readers. Some authors ask provocative questions to make the readers wonder, and others use the natural flow of storytelling. There are many other ways to engage readers continuously, and the strategy used by authors to keep their readers absorbed to their essay highlights their creativity. However, those techniques are often very subtle and require close observation, making it difficult for beginners to spot.
