“What inspires you? What concerns you? What do you want to know more about?”
Criminologists are constantly asking questions and searching for ways to mitigate and prevent, reduce criminal events from occurring. Your goal in the individual written portion of the assignment is to choose and examine in detail a crime problem, by answering important questions and introducing new creative strategies/solutions. Then, together with your group you will present an engaging, positive “LISA TALK” for the class to introduce and share your findings.
What is a LISA TALK? Similar to a “TED TALK” video presentation is introduced, where an inspirational conversation is shared about an important issue to share: wisdom, advice, knowledge, and inspiration, in this case our focus is “CRIME”. (we have watched many together in class throughout the CJS program) – TED is a non profit organization, devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (20 minutes). TED began in 1984 as a conference.
There are no standard templates for presentations. Elements of a good presentation- start with a very compelling, fresh relevant idea, teach us something (NOT EVERYTHING, simple is best), keep the audience engaged throughout, practice, practice, practice (rehearse- together and alone)
