Why daycare should not be allowed to give toddlers milk

Introduction

Daycare or child daycare refers to as the act of taking care of the child during the day by a person other than the child’s parent or the legal guardian. The daycare offers ongoing services to the child when the parent or guardian as at work or other tasks. This paper seeks to discuss reasons as to why daycare should not be allowed to give toddlers milk. Some of these reasons include: It can lead to infecting a child with dangerous diseases such as HIV/AIDS among other bacterial infections, some children will end up not taking the milk while at daycare making the daycare workers dispose the milk, some mothers may not afford the Formula/cow milk to their children making them to cry when others whose parents can afford are taking the milk, Formula/ cow milk have also been found to cause difficulties in child’s bowels leading to bloating compared to the mother’s breast milk, mothers should be encouraged to go back to the daycare at intervals to feed their children the breast milk instead of leaving formula milk for the babies because the breast milk is more nutritious among others.

It can lead to infecting a child with dangerous diseases such as HIV/AIDS among other bacterial infections

Allowing milk intake for the toddlers in the daycare can be quite tricky. This is because there are some disadvantages that come with this strategy to the toddler. For example, a mother may pack the baby the Formula milk in a container and take it to the daycare center for the baby to consume over the day. However, in some cases, the milk may pour out by mistake or some children may take all the milk and don’t get full. This may trigger the daycare worker to have a plan B. It can happen the worker is also breastfeeding, and she can be tempted to feed the baby her breast milk. Assuming the mother is HIV positive, it can lead to the spreading of the disease which can be transmitted through the mother’s breast milk (Association (AMA)). Milk can also get easily contaminated in the daycare institutions whereby the worker is attending so many children making the toddlers unwell after consumption.

Some mothers may not afford the Formula/cow milk to their children making them cry when others whose parents can afford are buying the milk.

Banning of milk in the daycare can bring the equality of all children. Those children whose parents cannot afford milk will not cry and get affected emotionally when others children from richer families are feeding. The toddler will not understand why he/she does not have the milk and this will torture the baby psychologically (Childcare and the Breastfed Baby). Using this strategy, all the baby will feel treated equally and eliminate chances of giving the daycare worker a hard time when some toddlers cry all through due to lack of milk yet their parents afford something else like porridge.

Some children will end up not taking the milk while at daycare making the daycare workers dispose the milk

Most parents assume that papers consumed the milk they took at the daycare in the morning and don’t feed the child on more milk at home. However, some children are poor feeders and won’t consume the milk at the daycare. Since the daycare worker is taking care of other children, it will be hard to keep on pursuing the child to consume. Eventually, the worker will discard the milk and give the container to the parent/legal guardian in the evening and even go ahead to tell the mother that the child feeds very well. This can be a disadvantage to the baby since toddlers need more calcium at this age for healthy and strong bone. Thus, it is important to ban then milk intake at daycare so that parents who love their child strain at home to feed their children the milk.

Formula/ cow milk has also been found to cause difficulties in child’s bowels leading to bloating compared to the mother’s breast milk

Consumption of formula milk which has got preservative has been found to cause discomfort in the babies’ bowels. The milk has preservatives and also undiluted cow milk makes most children with diarrhea. This is not healthy for the child as he/she is likely to cry more often and fail to sleep as recommended. Bloating can also make the child uncomfortable due to excess gas making him/her not take food as he/she feels full (Childcare and the Breastfed Baby). Thus, the child will not grow healthy due to lack of enough sleep. The child will also cost the parents extra expenses to take him/her to the hospital for treatment when the baby cries too much. This can be avoided by giving the child the breast milk especially if the toddler is between one to two years.

Breast milk is more nutritious compared to formula/ cow milk

Unless for the exemptions whereby the baby’s mother died or due to some circumstances such as illness cannot breastfeed the child, other mothers should be encouraged to create time to breastfeed their babies. This is because breast milk is more nutritious compared to other artificial and cow milk. Research has also confirmed that babies who feed on their mother’s milk are healthier and have a stronger immune system compared to other babies who don’t take breast milk. It has been confirmed that when the baby is breastfeeding, there are antibodies which pass from the mother through the milk to the baby preventing the child from many infections. The mother’s milk also contains 70 grams of calories, 1 g of protein, 4.4g of fat compared to formula milk which contains 53g of calories, 0.78g of protein and 3.7 gram of fat respectively (Pediatrics). This is to mean that breast milk would work always for the babies. For those babies whose mother has no alternative but give their children formula/ cow milk, the mothers should create time at home after the daycare to give their babies this milk. Thus, it is important to ban milk intake at daycare for the parent/guardian to increase their commitments and responsibilities of giving their babies milk at home. This can increase chances of having healthy babies in the world and reduces extra expenses of taking care of children who are weak due to poor intake of milk.

Conclusion

In conclusion, a daycare offers ongoing services to the child when the parent or guardian as at work or other tasks. Milk intake by toddlers at the daycare should not be allowed due to the following reasons; : It can lead to infecting a child with dangerous diseases such as HIV/AIDS among other bacterial infections, some children will end up not taking the milk while at daycare making the daycare workers dispose the milk, some mothers may not afford the Formula/cow milk to their children making them cry when others whose parents can afford are taking the milk, Formula/ cow milk have also been found to cause difficulties in child’s bowels leading to bloating compared to the mother’s breast milk, mothers should be encouraged to go back to the daycare at intervals to feed their children the breast milk instead of leaving formula milk for the babies because the breast milk is more nutritious as discussed above.
