Why has America been able to function politically with only two major political parties? What has been the traditional role of minor parties in U.S. history? EXPLAIN.
The United States of America is dominated by two major political parties, namely, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. I believe America has managed to function politically through the two parties because each party presents unique ideologies that highly affects Americans. Thus, in every presidential election, either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party win the elections. The Americans believe that the two-party system is beneficial in promoting centrism. Besides, they believe that the two major political parties set a common position that propels the electorate to choose from the two and neglect any other political party.
Moreover, Americans are ignorant about their politics because the two major parties have dominated the U.S. since the 18th century. Thus, other small parties are not regarded even if they depict the best ideologies for American society. Conversely, minor parties in the U.S have a traditional role in American politics. Minor parties in the U.S have participated in the formulation of major changes throughout American history. They have initiated major cultural, political, and social reforms. For example, the Socialist and Prohibition Parties initiate women’s rights to vote while the Socialist Party enacted a Bill to restrict children from forced labor in 1904.
What were the pros and cons of America’s expansion due to the spoils of the Spanish-American War? EXPLAIN
The Spanish-American War was characterized by the desire of America to expand. Just like in other wars, the Spanish-American War had the pros and cons of American expansion due to the spoils of the war. In terms of advantages, the war allowed America to enter into international affairs. In that regard, America utilized the opportunity created by the war to enter many agreements and treaties that propelled population and economic growth in America. The war also enhanced American technological innovation. The war also assisted America in repairing the relationship between North and South America. Moreover, Americans used the war to exploit land from Spanish, thereby developing its economic power and enhanced recognition internationally. Nonetheless, the war also came with several disadvantages. During the process of exploitation land, the war resulted in the loss of many lives. Besides, the Platt Amendment passed by the Senate in the Cuban Peace Treaty prohibited America from entering treaties and agreements. Overall, the Americans were subjected to excise tax on long-distance phone services to pay the expensive cost of the Spanish-American War.
