Windshield Survey/Community Assessment Assignment

Dallas County Windshield Survey Texas

The author will examine the economic, human and social climate of Dallas County, the ninth-largest district in the United States. Dallas has a population of over 2.4 million and is the second-largest county in Texas (French, 2018). The city of Dallas, where White, Black, Hispanic and other minorities live, is the most diverse of Texas cities. There are religious differences in the county, including Catholic, Lutheran, Jewish and Temple churches (Taylor et al., 2016). Social services, post offices, hospitals, dental banks, clinics, other government agencies and service centres are not equally distributed in the district.

There are several historic sites and attractions in the city. Obesity and tobacco use are critical public health issues in the county. These benefits have been sparsely distributed across the district amid rapid economic growth, job opportunities and industry expansion. The southern part of the country is very different from that of the northern county. Over 14 per cent of the population of Dallas County reported being below the poverty line, with an unemployment rate of 8.9 per cent (French, 2018). There is no health insurance for about 30% of the population. Cardiovascular disease, asthma and chronic obstructive disorders are the leading cause of death in Dallas County.

Physical environment

The county has major roads leading to the city, linking large cities with neighbouring countries. There are several outdoor areas where you can rest; green spaces are available, and children may have a place to play (French, 2018). The playground was ineffective, however, and the children did not play during the windshield inspection. There was a warning sign for the children in the park. Abandoned buildings have been identified in downtown and southern Dallas, and the centre of Dallas is more modern.

There are many fast-food restaurants and convenient shopping centres in the North rather than the South. Public transport can be reached by city bus and train. However, South Dallas is limited to public and private transport. However, most of the residents of North Dallas use private cars. Road conditions were excellent in the North and poor in the South. Public transport in the city provides access to transport for people with disabilities and the elderly (French, 2018). In the area, there’s a convenient store. However, there is a supermarket in North Dallas that sells a range of nutrient-rich foods. Consequently, the movement of people from the North to the South is limited.

Potential environmental health risks

Fast food places in restaurants may put people at risk of obesity. Education, education, obesity and chronic diseases are interrelated. Farmers markets are far too far away from the residential area. Construction climate is linked to many health issues; For example, the characteristics of the city have an impact on physical activity (Nikolova, Small, & Campillo, 2015). Improving overall and mental health is associated with physical activity and natural influences. This generation is currently facing many challenges. One of the tasks is to understand and develop communities or areas that will promote the impact of the building environment on my people.

Health risks of living, working and playing in such a physical environment

Living, working and playing in a resource-free community has some consequences for one well-being. The lack of access to healthy food, safe leisure and affordable public transport in the most deprived areas of South Dallas are examples of problems (Flores et al., 2017). People were seen standing in front of street shops during the investigation. Some asked for money, while others were allowed to work as drug dealers or prostitutes. Drugs, alcoholic beverages and violence in these neighbourhoods may pose a risk to people living, working and playing. During the inspection of the windshield, many “pedestrian and bicycles” were noted. However, some of the congested roads may be dangerous for pedestrians.

High-risk groups: children, women, elderly, disabled, veterans, homeless

Children, women, the elderly, the disabled, the homeless and the retired are at higher risk to the general population. Older people, young children, disabled people, veterans, housewives and women of all ages are usually less mobile than families. They are, therefore affected by the physical and social climate during exposure (Pandey et al., 2016). Youth and youth who often travel to work and university. Loss of social interaction and increased vulnerability to physical and mental health can reduce the ability of the elderly to meet environmental requirements. There are several outdoor parks and areas in Dallas County that can cause serious public health problems.

At the community level, there is a secure connection between homelessness and health. Disease, job losses, bankruptcies and host losses due to eviction are the usual method of homelessness, leading to poor health in effect (Flores et al., 2017). There is an increased risk of domestic abuse, chronic or infectious diseases, illicit drug use, alcohol and tobacco use, malnutrition and poor life control. There are many complex and interrelated health issues among homeless people. Tuberculosis is common among homeless people and, if left untreated, other infections may be hazardous to people or the general public.

There are three significant barriers to accessing health services for homeless people in South Dallas (Taylor et al., 2016). These include economic ties, geography and specialization in healthcare. It is impossible to cover the financial barrier (Pandey et al., 2016). The distance to health care facilities and massive traffic area due to geographical challenges. The views of health professionals towards homeless people are negative. Specific health concerns or social photographs are not discussed in some private health centres and are therefore not accessible to homeless toilets or showers.

Conclusions and suggestions

Windshield surveys are an effective way to assess community needs. This is the easiest and fastest way to understand the socio-economic and physical characteristics of a community. Researchers can help researchers decide what to do next to solve pressing public health problems and improve the quality of life in society. It is recommended to combine both drivings (covering a large area) and walking (getting a detailed perspective) on the community of interest to get an overview or feeling of the city.
