Workplace Violence Policy
The study examines the university of Mary Washington’s violence committed to keeping the workplace free from threats and acts of intimidation. in its environment, workplace violence is described as actions or words which endangers the employees or a result of having a reasonable belief that they are in danger. Through this place, the organization has implemented ways to protect the workplace, such as locking particular doors, establishing a code language, notifying the police if anyone notices any suspicious activities among many others. The policy was adopted on May 1, 2002, and revised on Sept. 23, 2019. The policy applies to all the staff and faculty. The main of the workplace violence policy is to establish procedures that prohibit violence in a working environment. It is currently exercised, and the status of the plan is active. Therefore, this paper aims at discussing workplace violence policy at the University of Mary Washington, responsibilities of each level of personnel, and how often the training is conducted.
There is the university policy committee which keeps the policy document up to date as there are new policies that need to be revised. For instance, the workplace violence policy was lastly revised on Sept. 23, 2019. The committee has a representative from each administration sector. Each of the committee members has the role of facilitation creation, revision and retirement of policies in each division. The committee meets twice in a year to review the plan and also to foster communication within the university. Meeting also ensures that the revision of policy is taking place within its division. The policy is applying to all employee whether they are covered to not covered by the university. It includes the teaching staff, faculty, students, research officers, contactors and the administrative officers. They also extend to the volunteers and other third parties in the workplace.
Training on the workplace policy is done online. There are online classes which cover about violence in the workplace. The university also offers classroom courses which educate the students on the dangers associated with bullying and any misconduct. In this policy, bullying is regarded as misconduct and could result in expulsion. The teachers are encouraged to educate the students on reporting such incidents. There are request forms available to any changes or additional information that the members would like to add. However, the request form can be adjusted by the committee member only. The responsibility of the committee is to create policies which are free from workplace violence such as non-verbal and verbal insults. They also ensure that the workers who report workplace violence of any kind that do not experience retaliation. The committee conduct training to the workers and students in regards to potential workplace incidents. Moreover, the students and workers have the responsibilities of complying with the workplace violence act and any other safety measure which have been put in place. They are also required to report any violent incidents or potential violence taking place to someone who is in the upper management. More so, continue participating in an education program that covers techniques which lead to violent behaviour in a workplace.
