14 amendment of 1868

Question A

The historical event that I select is the 14 amendment of 1868. The constitution was amended through voting on 9th July 1868, according to citizenship, to people naturalized or born in the U.S. the Amendment covered even for the slaves who had freed recently. By Amending the law, the state was forbidden from people’s property or life without going through a legal process. Besides, the Amendment provided that people should be given equal rights and law protection despite their race or color.  With the 14th Amendment, the protection of civil rights was improved to the Americans, both Black and White. Section 1 in the Amendment defines a U.S citizen as any individual who is naturalized or born in the U.S and are subject to a state jurisdiction is therefore a U.S citizen. With the ruling, the 1857 Supreme Court was nullified. The 1857 ruling stated that the black people were not free even when they are born in the U.S, they could not get full citizenship. The clause on equal protection that stated that people should not be denied equal protection rights was intended to stopping the federal government from discrimination. The state government discriminated the black Americans against their fellow whites. The Amendment would be significant in the civil rights of the Americans.  The Amendment further authorized the state government to identify states violating their citizens’ rights of voting and punish them by reducing their congress representation.

Question B

My research will aim at supporting a thesis statement dealing with the 14th Amendment. The thesis statement will be the impact of the 14th Amendment on the civil rights of black Americans. I will try to argue the statement with facts concerning the 14th Amendment of 1868.
