Simon Sinek’s TEDX Talk video
In Simon Sinek’s TEDX Talk video, he describes how can great leaders inspire action and how they can achieve what they need to do. In the beginning, he starts with the Apple example, even Martin Luther King, and how people can achieve what they need to achieve. Sinek focuses on the questions of why some people can achieve things that seem impossible.
All inspired leaders will think to communicate and act in the same way, which will be named the Golden circle. This explains why some organizations define what they do. There is a pattern of how such companies act and communicate. Sinek believes that great leaders are those who inspire action and introduce the principle of the golden circle. He gives the Apple example, where they change the status quo by changing the way they pass information. He continues to say that people don’t buy what you do, but why you do it, and that is why Apple has many sales because the competitors are at a lower level. Just as Sinek describes it, we buy when we feel something is different from the rest.
A transformational leader is the one who can control the decision making of other individuals by literally working psychologically with the individuals, and as a result, people will be loyal and will buy what you sell. The goal is to hire people who believe in what you believe- this in Sinek’s words will bring to us the idea that the transformational leader is the leader who inspires action by the positivity within him. This video also stresses having people who believe what you believe as the main step point in the transformational leaders. You can’t have a great market until you try something first and become the innovator. That is where he brings the examples of people buying what others have and the innovators who stood in line to wait for something first. What you do proves what you believe. According to Chapter 12 of the textbook ‘Knowing the Workplace,’ Transformational governance has been categorized as one style used by leaders who want useful results from employees. Even though different leadership styles are applied depending on the organizational structure, generally, leaders who enthuse and invest in their employees have a grander capacity to influence their team’s activities.
Overall I think that Simon Sinek’s golden circle inspires management and leadership. His approach is related to strategic management. His concept of leadership relates to that discussed in Chapter 12 of the textbook ‘Knowing the Workplace’ with a lot of similarities. In the book, just like in Simon’s ideas, organization leadership has become an important tool in managing and empowering growth within a company. Various leadership styles have come in handy for managers in different companies. Leadership is attributed to organizational growth, but on the other hand, negative leadership styles hinder growth. For instance, autocratic leadership styles are often top-down and rarely recognizing employees’ interests. Good leadership styles in the organization are likely to accomplish their organizational aims and objectives. This author talks about the role that leaders play to motivate their employees as well as what leadership styles do they adopt within their organizations.
