The American labor market is also changing with the changing consumer demands, global competition, and innovations in the technological field. The effects of these changes are a massive job layoff for the employees (Salisbury). Similarly, employers’ input in this trend is through training their employees with skills to help them secure jobs elsewhere (Salisbury). The strategy arouses various questions on whether they are well intended or not. Amazon Company provides more insight into why companies are investing in the skills development of employees through their claim of being a force for a useful purpose.

The approaches for retraining the employees are for the best interest of the worker. These training equip the worker with the necessary skills required in the market by helping them develop the proper skills needed in getting a new job (Salisbury). However, as much the programs are beneficial to the employee, I disagree with the reason for the approaches. Companies are continuing to lay off workers. Therefore training cannot save them get jobs which are already not there. For instance, the claim for Amazon being a force of change in the society by their training program is only meant to satisfy its critics (Rubin). The aim is to stop the demonstrations on their sales since it means they get less revenue. By training to show how good they give back to the community, but in a real sense, just like any other company, they are escalating the problem by continually laying off employees.

Amazon changes come as a result of considerable and immense pressure from its critics of lack of unionizing it, employees. Internally Amazon faces the challenge of maximizing cost and building a reputation for society. These pressures make the company carry out dramatic changes such as HQ2 subsidies and the alleged use of monopoly in a bid to gain the upper hand in its operations in the changing market (Rubin). From the demonstrations against its services, Amazon went on increasing its minimum wage and start offering retraining programs just tom portray the right image (Rubin). In doing so, Amazon undergoes a  transformative revolutionary change. The act of raising the minimum wage and starting of the retraining program is significant and sudden to the pressures from the critics and the need to preserve the right image in the market.

A companies culture provides on how deep the company is rooted in its operations and the way they conduct business. Amazon, however, uses significant sales turnover to enact changes in its organization and some of these cultures in their practices. The company uses culture fit and the charismatic transformational in the strategies they adopt. By raising the introducing the black Friday sales and the retraining of workers, they do not involve participation from the workers and the union due to the culture of unionizing its workers (Rubin).  Failing to engage the concerned parties results in demonstrations, which the company is has to deal with these problems. These changes somehow fall under the category of dictatorial transformation because of the urgency and need to implement change. The company has no time to involve everybody. However,  few of the management resolve to initiate changes regardless of the consequences. Some of the changes include implementing the black Friday and the layoffs.
