Economic causes of rioting

In the recent past, there has been an increase in the number of violence in various countries globally. The rioting that has been witnessed is caused by several factors, which include poor living conditions caused by lack of employment as well as poverty, oppression by the government, conflicts between religious and ethnic groups. The riots have been known to have severe effects in the country since it may lead to the destruction of property, loss of life as well as falling of political and government systems (Solt 1320). The essay will discuss the common economic causes of rioting that have been experienced by various countries recently.

First, the economic causes of rioting in Venezuela include a lack of essential goods. For instance, the severe shortage of cooking oil, milk, sugar, and notably lack of toilet paper came to global attention resulting in radical action to ensure appropriate supply. Second, in India, rioting is caused by a lack of women empowerment, which has hindered them from getting employment. For instance, several women have rioted in the past demand for equal rights, which will enable them to have jobs like their male counterparts. Third, in Mexico, the recent protests have been caused by thousands of immigrants who are seeking asylum in the country. Protestants are accusing the government of using their taxes to provide food and shelter to the immigrants instead of offering them jobs and better services. Forth, in Brazil, the recent protest have been several Brazilians seeking investigation to the widespread cases of corruption, which has crippled the country’s economy and led to a lack of employment to the youth and loss of public funds in an inappropriate manner.

Fifth, Egypt has endured a wave of exceptional labour protests in recent years. For instance, protesters are demanding proper wages to the industrial workers as well as the white-collar employees who are underpaid despite the harsh economic times they are going through. The sixth country where riots have been witnessed includes Cambodia, where workers protested in demand for better working conditions and better pay. For instance, women working in garment industries firmly accept as true that wages rendered to them are totally unacceptable. The seventh country that experiences violence due to economic factors includes Nigeria. For instance, protests have been witnessed in the recent past in Nigeria due to the high rate of unemployment to the youths and a high number of families living below the poverty line.

Eighth, according to the Wall Street Journal (2019), France is among the countries that have endured massive riots in the recent past. For instance, the yellow vest movement in France was moved by the rising cost of living and increasing fuel prices, as well as the overburdening tax targeting middle-class people. The ninth country experiences violence due to economic factors include South Africa. For instance, in the recent past, protests have been staged in all major cities in the fight for the rising cases of unemployment as well as the increasing number of foreigners carrying out business in the country instead of the native South Africans. Lastly, the tenth country experiencing a riot is Colombia. Protesters are rejecting economic reforms and the rising cases of corruption in the country as well as demanding for the government to lower the contributions to healthcare by minimum income pensioners.

In conclusion, the economic causes of violence, as well as rioting in various countries, include the rising cost of living, unemployment, low wages, corruption, and high government taxes.
