things fall apart analysis

Part A

The passage selected: 1

The author where the text is excerpted is Chinua Achebe. The title of the text is “things fall apart,” and it was originally published in the year 1958. Chinua Achebe’s text is based on the pre-colonial life in North-Eastern Nigeria and the subsequent arrival of the Europeans in the 19th century.

This passage is based on a night when Ekwefi was outside in the moonlight with the priestess. He felt that the night was brighter than normal. Ekwefi wonders how the people if the village of Unuachi had managed to trek a long distance. She walks along numbly as she tries to see her daughter and the priestess, but she apparently sees their shadows. As Cheilo set put , her voice rises, and Ekwefi guesses the openness she sees must be at a village called Ilo. When Ekwefi sees the ring of hills, she has a strange feeling. She regrets coming all the way to the caves. She gets a strange feeling as they approach the cave. This is the exact excerpt of the passage on the novel Things Fall Apart.

This passage is important in understanding the character of Ekwefi. She is presented as a lady who exhibits a lot of care and also fear. She is very careful about the surroundings near her. When they reach the cave, she regrets that it was unnecessary to come there. This is shown when the writer notes that. “Ekwefi broke into a run as though to stop them as them” when saw the priestess approaching the cave. She is also caring, and she believes nothing wrong can happen to Ezinma in her presence. She swore that …” is she heard Ezinma cry she would rush in the cave and defend her against all the gods…”This shows her willingness to take risks for the sake of other people.
