According to (Kalat, 1993), stress is unpleasant psychological and emotional arousal experienced by people in situations they feel in danger or their well-being threatened. The event that causes pressure is referred to as stressor, while how one responds is referred to as stress response. Everyday life includes events like losses, changes, and conflicts, some of which might be challenging and frustrating. Dealing with some of these events may lead to our battle with stress. In some cases, stress is brought about by the inability to things on time. Severe stress may result in an adverse effect on the health of a person.
Stress is not considered a medical diagnosis, but severe stress that continues for a long time may lead to a diagnosis of anxiety, depression, as well as severe mental problem (Bhargava, 2008). Chronic stress has been found to cause an increase in the heart rate and blood pressure of a person, making the heart work harder than usual. A study suggests that failure to manage stress may be associated with the beginning of the depression and that repeated release of stress hormones may cause hyperactivity in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system (Stress, 2019). In the case where this happens, it may disrupt the normal levels of neurotransmitter serotonin responsible for the feeling of well-being. Moreover, stress affects the judgment of a person, making it difficult to make an informed decision (Schneiderman, Ironson & Siegel, 2005).
