National Security and American Liberty: The Anti-Terrorism Policy Bill
Bolstering National Security and American Liberty: The Anti-Terrorism Policy Bill
“Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States in Congress assembled.”
Terrorism has been a threat to human liberty for many years. Many lives have been lost and and properties have been destroyed by radical groups such as Al-Qaeda. These groups have been conducting attacks around the world where the United States of America is among the victims. In September 2001, the Islamic terror group Al-Qaeda coordinated a series of attacks on the USA, which resulted in about 3000 casualties and additional 6000 injuries (Chermak & Gruenewald, 2014). The Anti-Terrorism Bill seeks to serve justice to the victims and brings perpetrators to book. Terrorism has always adversely impacted human rights and the functioning of society. As such, there is an urgent need to strengthen state security efforts, boost international cooperation, and freeze terrorists’ financial sources, and enhance border security (Gaibulloev & Sandler, 2019), which is at the very heart of this bill. The Anti-Terrorism Bill seeks to ensure that the federal and state governments channel significant efforts and resources in sealing every avenue that might lead to terrorism and ensure that the victims get their justice.terrorists
The bill seeks to penalize those who are behind terrorism both directly and indirectly. With the value it gives to American liberty, it proposes that and their direct supporters be sent to life imprisonment in the US maximum prisons. The bill proposes that the country provide stiff sanctions to state sponsors of terrorism and hunt for and prosecute terrorist leaders. Any bank account linked to terrorism should be frozen with immediate effect, and owners brought to book. Those who violate border laws should be pay at least $500 in fine or face at least two years imprisonment.
The bill seeks to discourage terrorism by all means possible and ensure that the USA National Congress and the citizens at large work together to curb terrorism in the United States. It is prime time the country needs stringent laws on border security, terrorism financing, and internal security to ensure that the adversities the country has experienced from terrorism do not recur. Americans have the right to practice their liberty in a safe society.
