relationship between oral care and VAP
The concepts evaluated by article one and article two is the relationship between oral care and VAP. According to the perception presented in article one, VAP is caused by poor oral care practices. Through the exploration of existing literature, the authors of article one reminded of techniques that can be used to prevent VAP. Some of the oral care practices that can be used include the daily examination of the mouth, teeth lips, saliva, and so on. One of the suggested instruments to achieve this is the Modified Beck Oral Assessment Scale, as well as the Mucosal Plaque Score. Notably, the authors achieved the purpose ad objective of their study. However, article one does not present healthcare professionals with evidence-based practices since there are no participants mentioned. This limits the scope to which the study can be relied on and utilized by nurses when they are preventing VAP in ICU. Also, the article has used literature that can be said to be obsolete besides having ten sources to support this study. Therefore, based on article one appraisal, up-to-date information must be provided to nurses working in ICU.
Article two also presents the same concept as article one. The only difference is that article two mentioned participants who were involved in the study. Another factor that gives the article two credibility is that the authors used exclusion criteria to ensure that only up-to-date and relevant information is delivered to the target audience. A strategic search of review of the literature was adopted from different and well-recognized journal databases such as EMBASE, LILACS, and MEDLINE. This shows that the article has used both primary and secondary sources of information to support this research, thus achieving the set objective. More than that, I find this article useful in the nursing field since the population size can enable generalization. However, this study is restricted to VAP control in ICU. Therefore, this necessitated the need to focus on researching other fields of healthcare.
