Completing the Interview

The interview involved various preparation processes. My main challenge was finding someone to interview. I had to find someone who is knowledgeable in the field of information technology. The first step involved making a list of people I already know. From the list, I identified those who held an IT job in various organizations. Since I wanted to settle on someone whose chances of accepting my interview invitation is high, I decided to pick on someone working in a university since I know they interact a lot with students and would be more willing to cooperate. I picked on the programmer analyst at the Niagara University in the department of IT.

I requested for his phone number from the IT department from office and contacted him to book an appointment. I Introduced myself as a student and explained my intention to have an interview with him for completing a class assignment. Fortunately, he accepted my request without hesitation and scheduled a meeting with me.

Now that my selection process was over and interview request accepted, I embarked on preparing for the interview. I made a concise list of the interview questions on a booklet. On the interview day, I began my interview by informing my respondent the number of questions I would be asking. I asked the questions and crossed those that have been asked to avoid confusion. After the interview, I thanked the respondent for his time.

From the interview, the respondent is a programmer analyst at Niagara University. The required skills for a programmer analyst include people skills and customer service skills. People skills are useful in facilitating smooth communication in organizations. IT professionals need to communicate well with fellow employees and with clients. For my respondent, it was useful in aiding communication with students who are the major clients of the university. People skills enables a positive interaction between employees and avoids misunderstandings. I always thought that IT professionals not need to have suck skills since they mostly interact with computers. From the interview, I have learned the importance of soft skills for IT professionals.

Again, I have also learned that IT jobs, especially programmer analyst required analytical skills and detail oriented individuals. A simple typing mistake can lead to failure of important computer processes. Thus, it is important that IT professionals become keen in every bit of their work.

Niagara university is an educational institution but operates as a company in some ways. The organization wants to attract customers who, in this case are students. The admission processes are aligned with sales. Good admission strategies increase sales. The number of students in the university goes up which will translate to more revenue. All departments in the organizations are equal.

Again, the university has strategized to improve service delivery by continually improving technology in all departments. There is technological advancement in class as well as sports department. Internet technology is utilized in the sports department to transmit video clips for replay reviews which are essential in decision-making. Wireless networks are used in the classrooms.

From an IT professional point of view, technological advancement requires adequate budgeting. New technology is emerging every time, thus, there should be sufficient funds to enable acquisition of new technology in the market. Technology needs infrastructure. Institutions should invest in developing appropriate infrastructure that would enable installation of better information systems.

Technology works wonders is supporting the sales department. Have edge cutting technology is like a magnet to student’s and other customers. During this error of information technology, people would like to be associated with current technology in the IT sector. The university has been able to attract more students by providing better information systems.
