STATEMENT OF PURPOSE PAPER

It is simply the thoughtfulness behind a space that holds the subtle dimensions to spark human emotions. As an Architect, there is nothing that fascinates me more than bringing a design to life. Coming from a very creative family background has always had a significant effect on my choice to pick architecture, a subject of curiosity and creativity. It is due to this that I have always taken an active interest in the city’s architecture and development through the ages.

My Bachelor’s degree in Architecture has subjected me to face challenging environments during my projects and exercises, that has driven me to go beyond my comfort zone and explore innumerable possibilities for design. Relentless hard work has always placed me in the top 10 percentile in my batch. The idea of integrating architecture to daily life experiences has been process driven and a fascinating journey for me.

Study tours and travelling has been a very insightful experience, these are crucial in understanding the socio-cultural, economic and climatic parameters of design. The live Brownfield Re-development project (Urban Design Exercise) in Philadelphia, in collaboration with local authorities like NKCDC and PCPC (Philadelphia city planning commission) was instrumental in navigating the complex balance between functionality and design of a structure in a larger urban fabric and the impact architecture has on its surroundings and users. Internship was another great platform to be at the receiving end of great knowledge and corporate exposure. It gave me the overwhelming opportunity to bridge the gap between school and field work, this helped me develop strong analytical reasoning and attention to details.

Studying in different country and cultural setting is a chance for me to explore and understand the local practices and to work with new design and climatic parameters. I have enjoyed each and every session of my graduation and I wish to pursue my Masters in a related field of study abroad. After deciding my course, I searched for various option available abroad and found that UK is apt study destination. With a focus on technology, research, and innovation, University of Sheffield bets offers my Masters in Architecture programme. During my research, I found that University of Sheffield offers all the Pre-requisites needed to achieve my academic goals. The Masters of Architecture programme resonates with my requirements to manage complex design projects with a sustainable outlook. I am looking forward for their integrated design studios which help explore architectural theory-designs with regards to aesthetic, technological, environmental and most importantly social issues, thus opening minds on both creative and analytical side. It offers an interesting inter-disciplinary environment with design studios and wide range of elective subjects. I am specifically fascinated with the initiative of design studio concentrating on relevant current issues and research-led studios. I am eager to learn from distinguished professors like John Sampson and Satwinder Samra. As I evolve as a student, I feel the need to know more. It is an ideal platform for me to gain requisite knowledge of both design and technical aspects, and also to broaden and enrich my understanding and improve my skill set. The challenging design programmes, facilities (material workshops), department faculties and the stature of student’s body, make me confident that I will be stimulated throughout the course of my studies. This programme also serves to give direction to my career.

I believe we all have a responsibility to give back to the society. With a solid educational foundation, I will be better equipped to make conscious and sustainable decisions in planning, structure and design so as to contribute in a positive way towards the environment and society. I am confident that I will carry the same passion when I am setting up my own practice back home and finally putting my knowledge and experience to practice. I hope that my brief statement has given you a better idea of my abilities, experiences and interests. I envision your esteemed university as the right stepping stone and hope to be an added credit. With my previous qualification and eagerness to study further, I believe that I will be able to meet the standard of the university and will leave no stone unturned during my stay at your institution.
