This essay examines Veronica’s phenomenon, consequences that will befall the interested parties, that is Anywhere university, internship program, other students and the potential employer. Furthermore, it will analyze Veronica’s character based on six pillars of character as well as the possible decisions she should make.
Veronica would kill the reputation of the university on the company she was given an internship; the internship program will, therefore, be unmeaningful, the program is expected to orient the interns to prospective jobs. This phenomenon will discourage companies from offering an internship to university students, therefore, shuttering the future of other prospective interns.
Veronica’s actions matter a lot to her character, the following her analysis based on six pillars of character;
- Veronica practices fairness since she decides to explore other job opportunities other than her studies, she attended universities career fair and invited to participate in the on-campus interview in which she receives a full-time job.
- Veronica was Trustworthy, and she was scared that she may make the wrong decision and decides to consult her academic advisor.
- Besides she was so caring; she was compassionate not to make the wrong choice.
- Veronica was responsible for being accountable to the company and the university in case she makes a wrong choice; therefore, she opts to seek advice before accepting the job offer.
- Additionally, she displayed respect, and she heeds advice from her advisor that she should honour her commitment to the company despite causing irreparable harm to the university.
- Veronica was a responsible citizen and proactive; she takes advantage of a career fair event in the university that offer her a full-time job. However, her advisor handles her situation very well.
If Veronica accepts one of the jobs offers, it will attract adverse reaction from the employer should they learned about her backing. Nonetheless, they will be left with nothing to do but only to express their displeasure by giving a negative recommendation.
The “employment-at-will” law will affect Veronica’s decision to take a job with one of the potential employers since the recommendation from Anywhere’s will still be considered. It will indicate that Veronica rescinded job offers.
In this paper, an analysis was carried about the perception of interns in relation to the role and importance of internship as part of formal education. Base on the case study, this essay draws some critical conclusion on the behavior of an intern. Other than equipping interns with practical knowledge and skills for future employment, it boosts chances of securing other job opportunities. It explains the complex situations interns experience, especially on obtaining employment and making sound decisions.
