Reflection Journals
Week #12
Upon setting my sight on project three assignment instructions, I felt unease owing to the specifications given by the assignment. The idea that the kit should not cost more than $10, for example, made me confused about the appropriate choice of materials that would meet the specification. Besides, the thought of the potential selection of technology also made me overwhelmed. The feelings were, however, temporary and faded away once I figured out that I had just panicked upon seeing instructions that I didn`t expect.
Week #13
My group resubmitted the report. Upon receiving the first feedback from the lecturer, we called for a group meeting in which fixing the paper as per the lecturer`s feedback was the main agenda. During the meeting, we discussed several aspects raised by the lecture in a bid to get a better grade. We used class notes, textbooks and other online sources to enhance our understanding of the issues raised after which we decided on what should be included in the final paper. The group secretary then rewrote the paper and presented it to the group for the final proofreading before submission. At this stage, we confirmed whether the paper had grammatical and mechanical errors as well as the revisions discussed in the meeting.
Week #14
The discussion on implicit bias made me feel guilty of unconsciously judging people in my social circles because of the things associated with their backgrounds. It made me realize that I am often engaged in stereotyping despite my strong stand against stereotyping; I often fall a victim of the same in multiple situations. In the future, the understanding of implicit bias will help me reflect on my actions towards others as a way of strengthening my social circles. Considering that the bias occurs unconsciously, I will be better placed to differentiate between what I believe in and what I am practicing.
