situation where you are faced with two competing needs
5-3 Discussion
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you are faced with two competing needs, and you cannot afford all of them? Well, this happened to me once in a while. I remember an instance in the past when I had no money, yet I needed to buy a shoe for my trip and send money for upkeep to my younger sister in school. The only money I had was $50, and it could only cater to either of the needs. Opportunity cost had to play. By this, I mean, I had to forego one of the choices available to get the other. What I mean is that when faced with such a circumstance, you must forego one alternative to enjoy the other.
The narrator in the above speech gives a real short story of something that they experienced in the past. The short story is provided at the beginning of a presentation and plays a vital role in enhancing the attention of the audience (Ashplant 102). An anecdote in speech plays the same position in creating the desired appeal to a presentation. Successful use of tale in speech requires the narrator to tune the audience to the same topic of discussion by introducing a topic in a similar context. By so doing, the audience gets prepared for the presentation, and their attention is drawn to the speaker.
