Walmart does not have support on the ground as much Target and there are calls for boycott for the retail store chain. Target on the other hand is a popular brand that has much popularity on the ground. The perception of Target on the ground is different from that of Walmart and this reveals the popularity of the brand. One major comparison of the two brands is the merchandise of the two brands. There is a populist belief that Walmart’s products are lower quality as compared to those of Target. The populist belief as well is that the Target brand has more quality and more stylist goods. The durability of goods is another major issue, as the Target brand is perceived to have more durable goods as compared to the Walmart brands. Yet another issue of contrast between the two brands is the business practices between the two brands. The media portrayal of Walmart is negative as compared to the positive outlay of the Target brand.
There are also reports of poor remuneration of employees at Walmart while Target rarely appears on the news for controversial reasons. However, there is a lack of proof that Target employees are better paid as compared to that of Walmart. However, Walmart has some positive aspects that have helped the brand maintain its credibility. One major boost for the brands the recent award that the company has received as one of the best thirty companies for diversity. Economically speaking as well, there is much hype concerning the positive effect that the Walmart brand has on the local economy. On the negative aspect, there is concern about the Walmart brand and its effect on local businesses. The Walmart brands continue to destroy family businesses and there is much concern that the Walmart brand has hurt the local economy. Target on the other hand continues to raise much expectation on the local economy especially with its expansion projects. Both brands however take a collective responsibility for taking business away from the local economies. Walmart is said to assist rural towns by opening local stores in areas that are accessible to the local public. Target however seems to be more interested with the richer community base and the brand store continues to seek a larger market base in such areas. One major perception that has not changed is that one that Walmart is the bigger store.
The public continue to believe that Walmart is the bigger brand as compared to Target. However, the mainstream consumer seems to have a better perception of the Target brand as compared to that of the Walmart brand. Furthermore, the negative aspects of Walmart seem to outweigh the negative aspects of the target brand. The local consumer also considers the Target brand especially due to issues such as quality of goods and service as well as pricing. However, Walmart apparently has a better outreach strategy and is able to attract the consumer at rural level. The location aspect of Walmart stores gives it a better advantage as compared to the Target brand.However,on a holistic level, there article reveals more preference to the Target brand, and the popular belief is that the Target brand is more convenient and customer friendly.
