well-reasoned argument in support of your own position
Now that you are able to approach a problem understanding its many sides, it is time to present a well-reasoned argument in support of your own position. In your analysis papers, you will: • Present the issue, clearly identifying the problem or question your paper addresses. • Present at least one other person’s position, using at least one of the assigned readings to explain that person’s reasoning and conclusions. • Present your position in relation to the other position you present, explaining and defending a claim of your own about the issue. While this is one of the main opportunities in this class for you to develop your own views at length, you may find it helpful to treat it as a kind of technical exercise: The main focus should be to clearly and accurately present someone else’s reasoning, and then explain and defend your own. Analysis Papers will be 3-4 pages long, typed, double-spaced, 12 pt font, with standard margins. You must provide proper citations and references for all sources used in your analysis paper.
