Circadian Rhythms

A circadian rhythm entails a natural internal process that controls the sleeping and waking cycles in response to lightness and darkness in an external environment. The method determines behavioral patterns and human sleep patterns. Body alertness, moods, and working effectiveness follow a circadian rhythm. However, to be sleepy, the body clock controls the production of melatonin hormone that is critical in making someone sleepy (Melo et al. 52). When it is dark, information is sent from the brain to the eyes; thus, one becoming drowsy. Besides human beings, circadian rhythm has been observed in plants, animals, and fungi. Circadian rhythms are self-sustain and adjusted depending on the local environment, which includes light and temperatures. Thus, it circadian rhythms are associated with several disorders like irregular sleep-wake pattern and shift work as well as sleep deprivation.

Different organizations and businesses must have a better understanding of circadian rhythms to aid in the management of work and employees. Different people adopt different sleep patterns that are hard to control in the organization. Still, at least, the organization can participate in educating its employees on the importance of good sleep and the effects of sleep deprivation on the productivity of the organization (Giebultowicz 64). To start with, understanding sleep-patterns of employees in any business will help in increasing productivity. The management will be able to engage its employees when they are alert and active for the benefit of the organization. Secondly, poor sleeping or sleep deprivation affects the health of the employees in the organization. Having health employees in an organization is critical to not only increasing productivity but also maintaining the production of quality products (Giebultowicz 65).  Finally, understanding circadian rhythm helps in avoiding possible injuries in the organization. The continued process of not getting enough sleep reduces the clarity of thinking and can increase injury risks. Thus, the organization should engage in educating the employees in proper sleep patterns while giving them adequate tools to address sleep disorders for the success of the organization.
