As a kid, I never knew what marketing was. I used to watch TV commercials and thought them as one of the media of entertainment only. However, that grabbed my attention to such a great extent as to enforcing me to ask from my father the reason behind broadcasting such lengthy advertisements in between the cartoon shows. And the information provided my father about advertising as a planned activity to call people’s attention to sell the product, established my first foot in the learning process about the field of marketing. Indeed, before that crucial moment, I was unaware of the presence of Marketing in my life.
With the gradual passage of time, it came to my realization that in today’s world, we people are surrounded by marketing and it is omnipresent. As a communication channel to inform the people about new products, building the reputation of companies and brands as well as generating needs & maintaining the relevance of the products in our life, marketing in one or other form is following us. In the light of the stiff competition in the market, this spectrum as their constant voice is helping the businesses to create the valuable relations with customers and keeping the businesses at an advantageous edge making them market leaders. To evolve into a balanced professional of both technical & managerial expertise, I decided to study management after completion of my high school successfully. I completed my bachelor’s degree in management and successfully completed my master’s in marketing and international business with a reputed University in the year 2012. These programmes augmented a critical understanding of the management, organisational development analysis, people management, knowledge of marketing in the context of globalization, marketing communication and strategic management. The master’s course increased my awareness with regards to the paradigm shift in marketing from analog to digital and its increasing role in businesses as the best way to reach out the customers across the world considering the consumers are getting tech-savvy in this technology-driven world. This founded a great interest in the digital marketing field, and now with perpetual zeal for learning and tremendous interest in people along with a demonstrated academic and professional record, I desire to enhance my knowledge further in the field of Digital Marketing.
During my master’s, I chose a career in retail and joined a retail chain organisation, as a Management Trainee in 2011. At work, every difference I could make was mostly through customer engagement. My contribution to the sales and operation helped me earn a position in the team of floor manager within a span of 6 months. My breakthrough of career came when I joined SONY as Retail Sales officer, and it gave me immense exposure of marketing and sales. I got to understand the very concept of marketing that I read so far, theoretically. At present, I am working as a Trade marketing in-charge and applying my skills and expertise in the market. Here I’m learning the intricacies of offline marketing from the grassroots level alongside making use of extensive technology as part of the various problems & solutions proposed. I’m gaining skills in MARCOM Conceptualization, Below-The-Line Promotions and Activations and Event Budgeting and Production.
These experiences are providing me with enough corporate exposure, in-depth knowledge of customer buying pattern fundamentals that made me understand the role of marketing in the world’s future. My furthered realization that internet being embedded in each and every activity, learning state-of-the-art digital technologies is imperative for me to understand consumer behaviour at global level, perform advanced analysis on making marketing strategies, building campaigns for traffic flowing and bringing changes for the best ROI thus helping organization to fulfil its objective in the modern, competitive and ever-changing economy. I understood that customer is the key element to any business and tapping the correct customer base is very difficult in this scenario. Competition is increasing day by day and being updated and having proper knowledge is becoming more critical.
Having worked with senior managers in sales and marketing, I felt that we are quite rich in experience but are being limited by the knowledge of advanced marketing technologies. With changing business scenario and accelerating competition, to be a part of top-management and successfully tap the huge potential offered by developing the economic market, an advanced digital-qualification will be more of a necessity rather than just a competitive edge, which is why I’ve made a conscious decision of delving deeper into marketing and strategies.
Through this program, I intend to make my career as a Marketing Manager with advanced digital-driven decision-making skills. In the coming years, I want to gain exposure to global business, grow into a business leader and promote a think-through-digital culture. Over the seven years, I have worked in a dynamic business environment characterized by rapid advances in technology, intense local and international competition, complex & specialized markets, and faster product or service life cycles and continuously evolving consumer behaviour. Some experiences from my life taught me that there should be three fundamentals attached to every person for success and they are wisdom, intellect and knowledge and be it short run or long run, I will always bond myself with such positive values.
Living in different parts of India made me tolerant towards ideas, beliefs and cultures different from mine. I carry a good experience of marketing in practical business applications, and I value the importance of data-supported conclusions. I define my attitude to be learning and solution-focused, while sticking to process and ethics. So, I believe my personality and experience is a good fit for the program requirements and what it offers.
