The move by social media companies to censor controversial topics demonetizing content deemed unfriendly to others is limiting free speech. Freedom of speech guarantees a platform for everyone to air their ideas and thoughts without any discrimination. censorship by social media companies ought to be discouraged since it hinders the free flow of information and ideas
The protection of user rights and business interests is paramount. Censorship should only occur when it violates user rights and threatens business interest. However, there should be clear guidelines on what should be censored on various social media platforms. Information that encourages radical behavior and inspire hate should be censored since there threaten the peace and harmony in society. In conclusion, censorship should be discouraged in all social media platforms. It should only be done in cases where the message being portrayed on the various platforms violates the fundamentals that the First Amendment seeks to protect.
