Obama and Google A Love Story article review
All forms of leadership are related in one thing or the other irrespective of the kind of leadership. Regardless of the fact that President Obama’s administration and global business are different, two have similarities. I think that former President Barrack Obama liked the google corporation and its executive so much because of the benefits the internet could have to him and his leadership. In relation to chapter 9 of the book “Introduction to Global Business,” google, which is a form of the internet, can provide various benefits necessary for both leadership and management. Firstly, the internet offers a better day today knowledge. Secondly, through new technological advancements in the internet, business management has been made ore easier. Thirdly, the internet makes it easier to know what is going around the world. Finally, new technology makes it easier to spread through different regions. These roles are similar to the kind of benefits Obama was expected to enjoy after getting involved with the Google corporation. This was destined at making his leadership easier by being to monitor what was happening around the globe through his administration. Generally, the engagement between Obama and google was to make his leadership more effective and manageable just the way the internet has done for companies.
Yes, at first, I was concerned about hearing the relationship between Google and former United States’ President Obama. First of all, the title of the cover article “Obama and Google A Love Story,” led to a lot of questions concerning what was inside the article. After reading the article and relating to knowledge of global business, it becomes easier to understand everything concerning the relationship between the two.
Chapter 10
The chapter focuses on the organization of a global business, what it involves, and its advantages. Organizing global business enables an organization to perform a wide variety of activities due to the division of labor. Also, due to mechanisms of integration, coordination among members or employees is enhanced. Finally, it helps in determining boundaries and interphases between an organization and the environment. Likewise, in the case of Starbucks, the new organization structure will most likely work in its favor.
I agree that with the expansion of Starbucks’ matrix structure, the company will get the advantages it is targeting, although it is not fully assured. With the expansion, the company is expected to operate under four divisions in the United States. The new divisions include Western/Pacific, Northwest/Mountain, Southeast/Plains, and Northeast/Atlantic. This means that Starbucks will have to recruit more employees due to the increased roles after the expansion. This reflects a faster process of production, and there is also a possibility that products will be more appealing to customers. In addition, the creation of centralized support functions, the four international divisions in the United States, will be favored. Expansion of a business’s matrix structure is, however, not only associated with advantages; thus, disadvantages are also expected depending on how the organization is perceived in the new areas. This means that the benefits listed and expected b Starbucks are not guaranteed even though the high chances are that it will get these advantages. In case people in the targeted expansion regions do not perceive the expansion as per the company’s expectations, these advantages of faster production and more appeal to customers cannot be achieved.
